Established 1971 by John and Marli Middleton, Mount Mary was one of the first sites planted during the resurgence of interest in Yarra Valley wines
The inspiration behind the planting of vines in the Yarra Valley came from Swiss settlers of the 1850’s. These worldly and hard working immigrants had been greatly influenced by French wines and recognised the climatic parallels the Yarra Valley shared with Bordeaux and Burgundy. After extensive visits to the wine producing areas of the world in the late 1960’s, and in particular those of Bordeaux and Burgundy, John and Marli Middleton became fixated on French premium wine. They resolved to find a suitable site upon which to establish a small commercial vineyard with the intention of making elegant, low alcohol wines from French varieties. John was obsessed at this stage with an idea put in his head by Colin Preece of Great Western, that Australia was yet to produce a refined and elegant Cabernet. John saw it as his duty to work towards this. Mount Mary»
In 2000, a group of characters joined forces to breathe life back into an old, run down Barossa winery in the small western district of Gomersal
Led by Barry, Baz to those who know him, and Gabriela White, they shared a passion for both the production and consumption of wine. The winery, now known as Gomersal Wines, was resurrected with the establishment of a new vineyard in 2001, opening of a new cellar door in 2005 and function room in 2006, and of course, production of a range of quality wines. The vineyard, just across the road from cellar door, consisting of 42 acres of Shiraz, and 8 acres of Grenache and Mataro supplies the winery with rich quality fruit with which to make wine. The unique cellar door is a true Australian experience, with eucalyptus trees and native plants throughout the grounds, magnificent red gum tables and pink gum bar, and truly Australian artwork covering the walls. The Barrel Room provides a wonderful and versatile setting for functions of all styles, including weddings, birthdays, conferences, launches and art exhibitions. Gomersal»
Frankland Estate was established in 1988 by Barrie Smith and Judi Cullam, they continue to be actively involved in every aspect of the vineyard and winery
They are assisted by a small, hardworking team who enjoy the diverse and idiosyncratic challenges associated with making wine. The Isolation Ridge vineyard lies on part of a farm where the family have run a wool growing enterprise since 1974. The decision to diversify their farming interests was inspired and informed by a tour of French vineyards Barrie and Judi undertook in 1985 and also by two vintages they worked at Chateau Senejac in Bordeaux. The winemaking philosophies at Frankland Estate reflect these influences as well as the hard earned lessons gained from some 17 vintages in the Frankland River region. Their approach to winemaking is based on the principle that the most significant characteristics of a wine come from the soil and the vineyard environment. They aim to make wines that reflect nature rather than the hand of the winemaker. Frankland Estate»

Seville Estate produce wines that are Yarra Valley classics, wines you can be proud to serve with confidence that's borne of history and passion
When Dr Peter Mc Mahon planted the first vines at Seville Estate in 1972, it marked the rebirth of the Yarra Valley as a premium wine region. By the end of the decade Dr McMahon and his wife Margaret, along with producers such as Mount Mary, Yeringberg, Yarra Yering, St Huberts and the like were fashioning wines that served to re-establish the lofty reputation the Yarra Valley had enjoyed in the 19th century. From its first vintage, Seville Estate quickly established itself as one of the Yarra Valley’s finest producers. Surprisingly in a region more renowned for its red wines produced from Cabernet and Pinot Noir, it was the Seville Estate Shiraz that received the most attention, quickly becoming one of Victoria’s most sought after wines. These wines that have been called one of Victoria's best kept secrets are now some of the most stylish on the market, with back vintage tastings showing their superb ageing capacity. Seville Estate»

Land that was once a high country sheep station is now a flourishing vineyard
Sheep and rabbits coexisted on the land for some time but the sheep couldn’t keep up with the nocturnal activity of the rabbits and were hopelessly outnumbered – they were driven off the land and were last seen heading north. The owner of Rabbit Ranch, Mr McGregor tried a number of measures to rid the land of the rabbits at the turn of the century, but was unsuccessful. In the end he decided to plant some vines and make wine. Rabbit Ranch»
