Dr Frederick Kiel would take the trek by paddle steamer from Melbourne every summer during the late 1800s to spend his summers at Sorrento. His children established a grazing station nearby, on a property acquired from the Baillieu family along Portsea Ocean Beach, ultimately planted to vineyards in 2000. A tapestry of flavours and aromatics suspended within an elegant mousse, Arras is artisanaly crafted from the noble Chardonnay and Pinot Noir to true Methode traditionelle. After several years resting on lees and an extended bottle maturation, this peerless wine from Tasmania's finest vineyards, carries the distinction of a world class, effervescent Cuvée.

The Arras team retain access to an endowment of the finest sparkling wine vineyards in all Australia. Choice parcels of fruit, hand picked off the best blocks within the finest sites, are gently whole bunch pressed, retaining only the first free run juices, to retain freshness and elegance of structure. After a term of cold settling, the individual batches are vinified on light grape solids, followed by a course of malolactic on primary ferment lees. Once clarified, the wines are judiciously assembled to style and prepared for tirage. Six years maturation on yeast lees has built additional complexity and depth. Degorgement and introduction of expedition liqueur completes the Methode traditionelle.
Straw gold hue, crystal clear with fine bead and persistent mousse. Bouquets of orange peel and clove, a sea brine influence, complexed by fresh brioche and pastry yeast aroma. Like the bouquet, lively flavours of sea brine, citrus peel and sweet jasmine flower are complemented on the palate with truffle and butter/ mushroom characters. A racy acid and great persistence of flavour ensure an exciting finish.

Tasmania's climate is significantly cooler than the mainland, with long summer daylight and maritime influences, which are Ideal conditions for long, slow and consistent fruit development. The House of Arras sources fruit from many outstanding vineyards in southern Tasmania and the south east coast.

Arras wines express the purity, clean air and cold climate of the Tasmanian isle. Ancient soils make the vines work a little bit harder to grow the grapes. What Arras have learned is how to husband to encourage grapes which can express their best. Arras have remained true to this vision and are committed to cementing a reputation as being the best of the best, one of the great sparkling wine houses of the world.
