Isabel Estate Pinot Gris 2012

Pinot Gris really loves Marlborough. The challenge is to achieve complete fruit ripeness without the sugar levels going through the roof, which would result in high alcohol and residual sugar, not the style Isabel aims for. In early summer serious bunch thinning is required, even after laying down lower bud numbers at pruning time. Too much sun on the ripening bunches can thicken and over colour the skins. The Isabel team take great efforts to ensure that each vine is treated to the right amount of sunshine, for perfect harvests of superbly ripened Pinot Gris.

Fruit is picked at optimal ripeness, grapes are characterized by a healthy pink grey skin and are brimming with flavour when tasted straight off ther vine. The essence of fine Pinot Gris can be determined by the quality of it's skins, not to thick and not too thin, avoiding the phenolic grainy profile of overcooked berries and achieving the desired silky texture of a splendid Pinot Gris wine. Juices are cold settled and racked to fermenters for a cool 10°C to 14°C vinification, carefully mantained to retain freshness and preserve crisp character. A soft viscosity is derived from an extended lees contact, building palate weight structure, mouthfeel and complexity.

Light straw colour. The nose exhibits refined complexity and aromaticness, pear drops and ripe tropical fruit, luscious aromas of almond and rose. A luscious palate with sweet hints of spice, rich nectar juice characters, rose petal and white peach over, a mix of stone fruit with slightly acidic green apples notes. Isabel offers good varietal definition and a well rounded mouth feel, soft viscosity from the gentle stirring on lees. The pefect accompaniement to pigeon, foie gras and all fine gourmandise.

Henschke Henrys Seven 2010

The archetypal Rhonesque fusion of Shiraz and Grenache, Viognier and Mourvèdre which dates back to the early pioneering days and reflects the history, religion and culture of Barossa Valley. Henrys Seven is a tribute to Henry Evans who planted the first seven acres of vineyard at Keyneton in 1853. He quickly developed a reputation for producing the best wines in the southern colony. Following Henry's death in 1868, his widow Sarah exercised her principles of temperance by closing the winery and uprooting all the historic vines.

Henschke Julius Eden Valley Riesling 2012

Cyril Henschke developed the reputation for premium Riesling wines as early as the 1950s, from fruit grown to vineyards in the Eden Valley, Keyneton and Springton. These dry, food oriented wines are clean and crisp and have the ability to age into delicious marmalade on toast flavours, due to the cool climate. This region provides ideal ripening conditions for the riesling grape and has a unique track record of exceptional ageing potential for the variety. Julius has been named for a Henschke ancenstor, a highly acclaimed artist and sculptor.

Henschke Keyneton Estate Euphonium 2010 375ml

Keyneton Vineyard, on Cranes Range Road, two kilometres west of Eden Valley, is named after English pioneer Joseph Keynes who settled atop the Mt Lofty ranges and established a village in 1842. Cyril Henschke purchased the property in 1966 and sowed the land to vines at a time when Riesling was the wine of choice and bonuses were being paid by the large wineries. He also had the foresight to plant Shiraz, the source of fruit for Keyneton Estate Euphonium, vines are now over forty years of age and yielding some of the Eden Valley's finest red wine.

Henschke Little Hampton Pinot Gris 2012

A pure varietal wine from grapes grown by David and Annette Innes at Littlehampton. Viticulture was first established in the Adelaide Hills in 1839 by John Barton Hack at a place near Mount Barker, just five kilometres from Littlehampton. It has been recently rediscovered as a winegrowing area. Littlehampton is an ideal site to practice organic viticulture, and responds well to biodynamics for keeping the vines healthy. Pinot Gris has been well received by the soils and climes here, where it ripens to plump varietal flavours and a judicious acidity.

It is said that the gloriously sweet, concentrated wines which result from grapes infected by Noble Rot Botrytis Cinerea are indeed a nectar of the gods. Ever since crafting their first botrytised wines, Hollick have developed quite a reputation for this rich style, fashioned exclusively from Coonawarra Riesling grapes grown to the Hollick Wilgha Vineyard. The nose exudes a complex array of fragrances, the luscious palate displays honey, mandarin peel and apricot flavours, moving slowly towards an everlasting finish and cleansing drying acidity.
