The very first blocks of vine planted at Scotchmans Hill, are now in their fourth decade. Set aside for bottling as a range of limited release, single vineyard wines, they represent the first growth of viticulture from the fertile crescent of Port Phillip's western shore. Crafted to traditional old world techniques, very similar to the great Crus of la Bourgogne, they afford the true enthusiast an opportunity to engage with the decadent delights of the greater Geelong, as sampled alongside Gruyere, game and the finest gourmandise... By those wonderful folks who bring us Shaw & Smith. Tolpuddle was planted to vine in 1988, on a highly precious site along Back Tea Tree Road, just outside of Hobart. The inaugural vintage claimed Tasmanian Vineyard of Year in 2006. The illustrious Messrs Martin Shaw and Michael Hill Smith acquired the property in 2011, with a view to elevating the excruciatingly limited release Tolpuddle to the status of a national Grand Cru. A singular experience in new world Pinot Noir, Tolpuddle unravels endless layers of pastoral complexity, powerfully structured yet elegant, immaculate and poised... Planted to the tranquil Shangri-La of a sun warmed slope in Yarra Valley, TarraWarra was established 1983 by the founders of the Sussan and Sportsgirl brands. Philanthropists and patrons of the arts, Mr and Mrs Besen, AO and AO respectively, took a highly aesthetic approach to the pursuit of viticulture. Healthy soils and happy fauna were the means to an end, good wine comes from a sound ecology, but great wine needs the inspiration of a holistic engagement with the arts. It is here at Healesville that habitues can savour the Sauvignon while immersing themselves amongst the work of our national masters. A costly collection of canvas by our merry Messrs Boyd.. Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1.5L MAGNUM 1980 CONFIRM 1980 VINTAGE

Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1.5L MAGNUM 1980 - Buy
Shiraz Cabernet Sauvignon Barossa Adelaide Clare McLaren Coonawarra South Australia
The 1980 Grange is predominantly Shiraz with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon (4%) from the Kalimna and other Barossa vineyards, the Clare Valley, Magill Estate, McLaren Vale and Coonawarra. A generally good growing season with fine and warm conditions, was followed by a cool vintage.
Considered an outstanding vintage, Tim White said of it at a tasting in September 1999,
Deep crimson brick red. Intense plum, blackberry/ menthol, mocha /liquorice aromas, confection-like small berries, cherries and plums has a hint of treacle. Smooth and creamy, with flavours of mulberries, cassis and plums, it's obviously a cooler season Grange wrapped around by sweet oak. It opens up after time in the glass, the tannins are pronounced but offset by stylish, rich, concentrated dark berry chocolaty fruit. First vintage adopting consistent use of signature red Penfolds capsules. Winemaker comments by Don Ditter: Medium red/purple. Intense, fragrant chocolate cherry/prune dried fig aromas. Dense and chewy with generously ripe, prune/ chocolate fruit flavours, pronounced grainy tannins and superb length.
