See Saw Semillon Sauvignon 2012 CONFIRM 2012 VINTAGE

Semillon Sauvignon Blanc Hunter Valley + Central Ranges New South Wales
Two of Australia's most notable winemakers have cut parcels of Hunter Valley Semillon with an equal portion of Sauvignon Blanc grown to the high altitudes of Central Ranges. The idea behind See Saw was the brainchild of Angus the Bull winemaker Hamish MacGowan, who is building a reputation for his intriguing, successful marketing concepts. His skill at crafting wines is pretty up there too.
See Saw set out each year during the growing season to identify the finest grapes while still on the vine, determining the most appropriate time to harvest and delivering fruit to the winery in as pristine a condition as possible. The idea is to take the finest quality fruit from terroirs where they work best and to hand them over to the best winemakers. The Semillon component is the baby of Andrew Margan, a stalwart of the Hunter Valley, creator of the esteemed Margan Semillons. Parcels of Sauvignon Blanc grown to closely managed cool ripening sites are earmarked on the basis of vigorous varietal characters and exquisite balance. The winemaking focus is all about cold ferments and classified strains of yeast. Alcohol 11.6%
Pale straw in colour. Considered an ideal match because one completes the other. Semillon provides the texture, body and richness, while Sauvignon Blanc offers the structure, raciness and backbone. The result is fresh and lively, combining lime and citrus characters with a hint of passionfruit to produce a style that offers genuine wine complexity with pure and simple drinking enjoyment.

See Saw

See Saw combines the talents of three winemakers who met in the Hunter Valley and who ten years later have reunited to collaborate on this exciting new project. Andrew Margan of Margan in the Hunter Valley and his former assistant winemaker Hamish MacGowan, now of Angus the Bull, were inspired to unite the best of Australian Semillon with the best of New Zealand Sauvignon Blanc to create a new wine in the popular Semillon Sauvignon Blanc category.

Andrew and Hamish called on friend Sarah-Kate Dineen, formerly of Tempus Two in the Hunter Valley, to provide the Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. Sarah Kate (and winemaker husband Dan Dineen) returned home to New Zealand where they opened their own winery, Maude Wines. Andrew provided his prized Hunter Valley Semillon and it was up to Hamish to turn the idea into a reality and to perfect the final blend. Hamish conceived the name See Saw, developed the brand’s funky label and completed the business plan that would take the new wine to market.

They shared a stylistic goal which was to produce a wine with genuine complexity that also offered pure and simple drinking enjoyment. The name See Saw reflects the balance of this particular blend and also the collaboration of three friends from two regions with one common goal. This is about real people with real wine experience who are passionate about what they do and who are not afraid to push traditional boundaries. So chill it down, drink it up, enjoy it now.
