	Excellent Langtons Classification & Gold Medal 2008 Concours Mondial de Bruxelles. Dead Arm is a vine disease caused by the fungus Eutypa Lata that randomly affects vineyards all over the world. Often vines affected are severely pruned or replanted. One half, or an arm of the vine slowly becomes reduced to dead wood. That side may be lifeless and brittle, but the grapes on the other side, while low yielding, display amazing intensity. 	Each $49.99 Dozen $599.88	Each batch of fruit received is gently crushed in the open-mouthed, rubber-toothed Demoisy crusher so that as many berries as possible remain whole. After crushing, the must is transferred to open fermenters where the seeds and skins are permanently submerged beneath the free run juice. The must receives no plunging or pumping. Once the primary fermentation is nearly complete, traditional foot-treading takes place prior to basket pressing. The wine is then transferred to barrel to complete its primary and secondary fermentation. After twenty months every barrel is individually assessed for quality. Only the best barrels are selected to be bottled as The Dead Arm Shiraz. Alcohol 14.5%
	A very dark, vibrant, polished appearance with a dense red crimson hue. The aroma upon opening is surprisingly elegant showing superb fruit characters dominated with red fruits, plum, spices, red cherries, cranberry, white and green pepper and blueberry notes against a back drop of very fine oak. The flavours are ripe; red fruits, cherries, plums and black olives with edges of dried garden herbs. As the wine opens the palate is extremely tight and controlled. In many ways this wine is more elegant than previous vintages with tannins that have a wonderful mineral grittiness that is balanced right to the wine’s pointed finish

dArenberg Coppermine Road Cabernet 2006

Coppermine Road gathers its name from a road nearby the d’Arenberg property that runs parallel to the very best Cabernet vineyard site in all of McLaren Vale. The precious grapes come largely from a curious and near extinct clone of Cabernet Sauvignon. This unnamed clone yields no more than one tonne per acre because of its very poor setting ability and the tiny size of its berries. The quality of the grapes however is far superior, with wonderful violet and blackcurrant aromas, great acidity and long, intense, finely grained tannins

dArenberg Money Spider Roussanne 2007

In the belief that three white varietals of Rhone origin would have the same affinity for the soils and climate of McLaren Vale as their red counterparts, dArenberg planted the region's first Viognier, Marsanne and Roussanne in the mid 1990s. The first small crop of Roussanne was harvested and held in a shed for an hour while the crusher was being prepared. A sea of tiny money spiders (Erigoninae) crawled to the top of the load and started furiously spinning a cover of webs. "It’s fat and juicy, and immediately satisfying!" -Adelaide Advertiser

dArenberg Peppermint Paddock Sparkling Chambourcin

The grapes for this sparkling red wine come from a vineyard surrounded by peppermint gum trees. Traditionally this block has always been difficult to cultivate and vines have struggled. Unfazed by the site Chambourcin has thrived on the Peppermint Paddock. Chambourcin is almost disease resistant and the vines are often left un-irrigated, growing quite happily on their own rootstock.

Chester Osborn was one of the first to plant Tempranillo in the McLaren Vale as it appeared well-suited to the region, and is a traditional blending partner to Grenache. d’Arenberg uses sticks (vine cuttings) planted into stony soils, the Shiraz component is added for it's bold flavour profiles and aromaticness. The flavours linger and are balanced with edgy acidity and fine gritty mineral tannins which gives the wine a level of elegance whilst retaining the trademark rich juicy character, so intrinsic to Sticks and Stones

Joseph was one of the most successful racehorse owners in South Australia until 1912, when he sold his stable to buy the d’Arenberg property. Footbolt was one of Joseph's champion horses. A very approachable wine in its youth, the soft rich middle palate, terrific texture and long rolling finish, can last for decades, as a half century of previous vintages have shown. The close proximity of the vineyards to the Gulf St. Vincent induces a beneficial cooling effect on the grapes. Many of McLaren Vale’s vineyards are on free-draining soils underlain with limestone, formed by the calcareous remains of the local marine fauna. One such creature was the Hermit Crab, a reclusive little crustacean that to this day inhabits the cast-off shells of others.
