The family Hentschke have been Barossa farming since 1842, they know from good soils and settle on nothing but the finest land. Eden Valley, perched high above the Barossa, is recognized as one of the world's finest Riesling growing appellations. Riesling has been grown here for over 150 years. Elevated approximately 450 to 550 meters above sea level, the region's cool climate provides ideal conditions for great Riesling fruit to flourish. The spartan soils and rocky terrain deliver distinctively varietal characters that are unique to Eden Valley. Closely cropped and fastidiously managed, the Hewitson source vineyard yields magnificent fruit. Hand picked grapes are low in pH with fantastic acidity and complete flavour development. Following fermentations, Gun Metal is treated to a settling and cold filtration before bottling.
Bright, light straw in colour. Lemon blossom perfumes, granny smith apple and lime zest on the bouquet. A wine of great intensity, bursting with fresh citrus flavours of limes and lemon, finishing with a talcum powder minerality characteristic of first growth Eden Valley Riesling. The powerful fruit and balancing acidity make Gun Metal a totally envigorating drink today, while offering the promise of great longevity and ongoing development.
