Reillys Shiraz 2010

Reilly's are a highly esteemed Clare Valley operation with a history that dates back to pioneering times. While it's not quite the complete limerick, there once was a man named Reilly, who cobbled and made wine on the sly. His descendants still own and operate the grounds of his original homestead, initially treading grapes and bottling fairly small amounts for family and friends. The quality of the family Ardill's limited editions created it's own demand and Reilly Wines was born. Clare Valley is known for it's rich but soft, warming Shiraz, and Reilly's do Shiraz best.

The Clare Valley is famed for Shiraz, what differentiates it from other Shiraz growing regions are the dry, hot summer days and cool, crisp nights which contribute to the intensity of flavours in the fruit. The Reilly estate vineyards, located in the Leasingham and Watervale subregions of Valley Clare are completely unirrigated, depending solely on rainfall. Shiraz grapes are all hand picked off the dry grown vines. Fruit is inoculated to yeast strain AWRI 796 and treated to ten days vinification in traditional open top fermenters. Upon completion, parcels are transferred to a selection of American and French oak barrels for an extended eighteen months maturation.

Deep, bright purple/ scarlet colour. Gorgeous nose of distinctive Clare Shiraz aromatics, a concentration of blueberry and bramble characters infused with regional mint, backed by luscious chocolate oak. Full bodied with rich, supple fruit, on the palate, mouth filling flavours of red and black berries over hints of mocha and pepper, gentle tannins and flattering, milky oak. A long lingering finish completes, this stylish wine. Enjoy Reillys with braised meats and slow roasts, substantive vegetarian recipes like eggplant and potato, or ripe pungent cheese.

Reillys Barking Mad Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

The Reilly's philosophy is to produce low volumes of characterful, hand made wines. Clare Valley Cabernet is picked off closely husbanded vineyards at optimal ripeness to be given a good old fashioned vinification and hand plunging in open vats. The moniker may sound a bit bonkers but the Barking Mads are extremely well made wines, very enjoyable in their early years, they offer the quality of fruit and vigor of tannin to richly reward those with patience, but why wait? Enjoy today alongside grilled meats, osso bucco or veal and tomato ragu.

Reillys Barking Mad Sauvignon Blanc 2012

A frivolously labelled Sauvignon Blanc from an otherwise serious winery, Barking Mad has already created quite a name and following for itself. Designed to bring the sanity back into one's life, parcels of crisply flavoured grapes are sourced from cool climate, low yielding vines in Adelaide Hills. But Barking Mad? Some say it was inspired by Tessa the vineyard hound. Some claim it's about the winemaker's demeanour. Others suggest it relates to the price point for such a high quality wine. Reillys Old Bushvine Grenache 2007

Gratuitously Grenache driven, delicately open fermented and gently basket pressed, vinified exclusively from fruit grown to vines planted in 1919 by a veteran who'd been given the land as part of an ANZAC resettlement scheme. Being bushvines, they grow low to the ground and are untrellissed. Grapes are all hand picked as modern harvesters cannot collect the fruit.
