Shiraz Viognier South Australia
Y Series is fashioned to express the magical synergy between the unique rapport between Viognier and Shiraz, co-fermented to capture their extraordinary affinity. Beautifully perfumed and plushly lined with aromatic strawberry plum fruit flavours, treat Y Series Shriognier to an American style spread of barbequed steak and dressed ribs, or a travellers feast of Shanghai style, pork and seafood dumplings.
The label designs of Y Series represent the labours, inventive thinking and aspirations of all at Yalumba. The icon here depicts a horse, an important part of Yalumba's past when they were employed as transport and tractor. Nowadays, the team enjoy a day at the races watching magnificent thoroughbreds cross the finish line, displaying the Yalumba colours. Parcels of Shiraz and Viognier are vinified in a mix of static potters and rotary fermenters. The aim here is to construct a medium weight, generous wine showing blueberry fruit and attractive floral characters. Warm temperatures at the onset, followed by three to five days post ferment maceration extract soft fleshy tannins and builds structure.
Deep crimson purple. Aromas that are both wild and exotic, blueberries, violets and cherry ripe notes from the Shiraz are elevated by the subtle influence of Viognier, which brings an alluring turkish delight character. The well rounded palate is medium to full bodied, rosewater and cherry ripe flavours in harmony with silky tannins.
