Redman Coonawarra Cabernet Sauvignon 2010

A traditionaly crafted red wine made from grapes grown to thirty nine year old, hand pruned vines, planted to rich, red Terra rossa soils. Redman is a bastion of Coonawarra Cabernet, the family tracing its original parcels to forty acres purchased by Bill Redman in 1908. A consistent effort that defines the Coonawarra Cabernet style, with soft tannins and good varietal fruit.

Redman, red estate, red soil and red wine, the four Rs which comprise the family coat of arms, working in harmony to produce the famous Cabernet of Coonawarra. Bill Redman's great desire and passion was crafting fine red wine. His faith in the acclaimed Terra rossa and in his own ability came to a zenith in 1936 when Redman Claret won the Empire Wine Show in London. Grapes are harvested and crushed right in the vineyard. Vinification is carried out in open concrete fermenters, the cap is hand plunged three times daily. Matured for a year and a half, third of the wine is run off to new French oak hogsheads. The balance completes fermentation on skins before transfer to barrel.

Dark red in colour. Rich concentrated berry and cassis fruit with cedar notes, a touch of mint and vanilla oak. The palate exhibits ripe berry fruit with firm tannins which combine to give a balanced and complex structure, before a long dry flavoursome finish. The classic Coonawarra, exhibiting elegance with generous blackberry flavour and solid structure.

Redman's Coonawarra are still made by the Redman brothers from fruit grown to the original family parcels established in 1908. The association began circa 1901 when Bill Redman at the tender age of fourteen, arrived in South Australia to work amongst the vineyards. He quickly formed an affiliation with the area and six years later encouraged the rest of his family to join him. Grown to some of the best sites on Coonawarra's Terra rosa, this well appointed wine offers commodius fruit flavours, subdued oak and the most hospitable tannins.
