Browns Of Padthaway have two vineyard sites that lie at the heart of the Padthaway region. The original vineyard was established in 1970 at Keppoch, predominately planted on the famed Terra rossa soils, as well as some sandy loams over limestone, free draining and fertile. In 1997 the estate's Padthaway Valley Vineyard was developed, a few kilometres to the north of the existing Keppoch property. Supplementary rainfall is sourced from aquifers of the artesian basin that lie beneath the Limestone Coast, the vines are nurtured by a very high quality of ground water. Matured in a combination of new and seasoned American and French oak hogsheads for up to two years.
Brick red with a slight purple hue. A big, generous wine with a complex earthy bouquet, magnificent fragrances, floral, chewy and spiced. Rich concentrated blackberry fruit on the bouquet with hints of pepper and anise over subtle oak. The palate features rich sweet varietal Shiraz flavours of blackberry and dark plum, balanced with good acidity and fine long tannins. The flavours are very concentrated, with good alcohol and an exceptionally fine balance between refreshing acidity and topical fruit. The seamless balance and ripe, mouthfilling berry characters make this a splendid match to wild boar or delicate provençale styled rabbit. Fully aproachable upon release and will reward those with a cellar.
