Wines by Dog Ridge

Dog Ridge The Pup Cabernet Merlot 2010
Heel! Sit! Sometimes simple commands are the answer, nothing too technical, no putting on airs and graces, no fuss. Just right for pups who enjoy a lively wine. Pups like this are unrestrained yet house trained, full of the simple pleasures. A joy to all and yet showing pedigree and character nurtured with expert care. A sniff and a lick will tell you there's fun to be had with this smooth Cabernet Merlot. Fetch! Grown and trained by a family infatuated by McLaren Vale, fine wines and curly coated retrievers. A silky smooth, more-ish modern Aussie red.

The historical Wylpena Vineyard on Bagshaws Road in McLaren Flat was one of the original sources for Chateau Reynella's red and white ports. A century later, it is now owned and operated by the Wright family. The viticultural team applies traditional and state of the art practices which consistently produce fabulous foundation flavours that are ideal for this modern style of wine. Named Dog Ridge for an extreme love of Curly Coat Retrievers, the ecologically driven vineyards typify why the McLaren Vale is such a great winegrowing region. After processing 100 tonnes of grapes into wine, producing about 12 tonnes CO2, the net benefit to the atmosphere is a reduction of 840 tonnes. Approx 14.0%
Deep dark purple. The overall bouquet is spicy dark forest berries with a hint of perfumed French oak. The palate is filled with big bright juicy fruit flavours that tantalise and tease, a burst of dark cassis at first, followed by a silky muscular, well structured mouthfilling lick of cocoa lined tannins. A concentrated food wine that pairs beautifully with generously flavoured dishes (aim for glazed reductions over charred cooking!).
