This exceptional terroir, a combination of superb free draining soils and low annual rainfall with good sun exposure, create the optimum conditions for grapes which translate into some of New Zealand's finest wines. Fairhall Downs looks close to rivalling those exuberant Pinot Gris which are most famously produced in Alsace.
