Wines by Kangarilla Road

Kangarilla Road Shiraz 2009
A redolent Shiraz wine with an abundance of soft tannins that's drinking beautifully. The major component is from the estate's McLaren Flat vineyards. The second instalment is sourced from good sites at Blewitt Springs and Seaview, with a smaller portion of early ripening, low yield fruit originating from a vineyard in the Sellicks sub region which is very close to the sea. They all combine beautifully to form a wine which offers rich aromas of spicy mulberry conserve followed by a smooth mix of black and red berry fruits on the middle and back palate.

Kangarilla is the main road running past the vineyard towards a small village of the same name. The vineyards, located at the northern part of the foothills, ripen later than other parts resulting in cooler climate spicy aromatic, dark berry driven wines with intense mid to back palate presence and soft velvety tannins. These wines tend to develop best in French oak, however second and third use American oak also provide great depth. Kangarilla is vinified in a mix of traditional open fermenters with heading board systems and in static open fermenters using gentle cap management techniques. The pressed wine was aged in a combination of new and seasoned French and American oak barrels. Approx 14.5%
Purple with crimson hues. Aromas of sweet spicy black fruits and perfumed plums with subtle glimpses of vanilla. On the palate comes an explosion of black cherries with hints of spice, cinnamon and white pepper. Spicy bold dark plum characters before a creamy velvety textured finish, the result of beautifully integrated fruit and oak tannins, enhanced by lingering notes of chocolates and dark coffee.
