Wines by Otway Estate

Otway Estate Semillon Sauvignon Blanc
A very fine vintage from Otway Estate in Victoria's western highlands hinterland. This silver medal winner is produced from fruit grown at the six hectare estate, from vines that are up to 20 years old. Otway Estate is located in the northern foothills of the Otway Ranges. Both the Semillon and the Sauvignon grapes for this release were allowed to ripen fully before being crushed and blending into the final vats, producing a vibrant white with crisp acidity, fresh fruit flavour and distinct varietal characters. This is a lovely boutique Victorian, well crafted and ideally suited to poultry dishes, cheeses and al fresco dining.

Otway Estate wines are premium cool climate wines with maximum flavour and length, and great cellaring potential. Otway Estate was first established in the 80s and was known as Barongavale winery. Expansion of the vineyards began with further plantings, as appreciation for the winery's limited production continued to grow. The estate consists of nearly 28 acres with approximately 16 acres under vine, set against a backdrop of sartorial splendour in the Victorian Otways. The local Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc fruit grows lush and fat with flavours, natural sugars and wonderous fruity acids. Alcohol 12.2% Winemaker Ian Deacon.
Colour is pale sunshine white-straw yelow, very clear and crisp in appearance with a hint/tinge of the characteristic green-ness. Nose is of gooseberry and tropical citrus with a distinct leafy earthiness and an almost honey-nougat overtone, hints of buttercake and melon. The palate is light but mature and well-developed, round and peachy with a slight tang at the side and a solid chunkiness of the earthy Semillon hints on the mid-palate. Careful ageing may benefit, but it's crisp acidity and fresh fruit flavours make this a wine that can be enjoyed at anytime.
