Wines by Peter Seppelt

Peter Seppelt Flor Fino Sherry
For Peter Seppelt Wines, traditions continue. The Seppelt family has been making wine since the middle of the 19th century, present day Peter Seppelt is the fifth generation to preserve the heritage. In more recent times, Karl, Lotte and Peter came across 120 hectares of winegrowing Terra Prima in the Barossa. That was twenty five years ago, the vines have fully matured, and it has come to be known as Grand Cru Estate. A very dry fortified aperitif wine with a developed intense aged yeast character, and long lasting finish.

Grand Cru, means fine wine, and it expresses the Peter Seppelt estate's aim of producing the best, by virtue of a superior vineyard site which enjoys perfect elevation, and a wonderfully cool climate. All grapes are passionately tended at the Grand Cru Estate estate vineyard, to sustainable and biodynamic principles. Chemicals are used only sparsely, and solely as a supplement to ecologically friendly critical foliar sprays, aerated compost tea, and natural fertilisers. This provides valuable beneficial microbes which translate into a natural defense system within the plant, which then aids to envigor the vines. The Peter Seppelt principles of viticulture are the fundamentals for crafting exceptional Barossa fortified wines.
Straw in colour. A wine of passionate aromas, there are charming hints of nut and of vanilla, bitter orange and yeast. On the palate, Grand Cru is dry yet biscuity, exhibiting tantalizing traces of clove and vanilla essence, there appear to be characters of anise and of must, leather and rancio, olive and orange peel. A judicious aridness, complimented by layers of white chocolate and cocoa. There is a nice softness to this amontillado style of wine, the fruit is mature, the headyness of it's must-like qualities express humility and comfort, and whilst typically high in alcoholic content, it is warm and soothing. A dry, but impressively long finish, carrying suggestions of seawater and smoke, almond and liquered fruit.
