Wines by Stoney Vineyard

Stoney Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon 2007
Domaine A/Stoney Vineyard is a small, family owned property, half an hour's drive from the city of Hobart in the Coal River Valley of south eastern Tasmania. The topical cépage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot is fashioned into a statuesque Bordeaux style. The artisanal efforts of Domaine A are Langtons listed, have received much adulation from the industry press and claimed prestigious awards.

Vines on the Domaine A/Stoney property were originally established in 1973 to black cracking clays over a Jurassiac base. Veraison is normally around February and picking in mid April. The north facing vineyard and extended sunshine hours ensure that the fruit is fully ripe at vintage. A rich cépage of Cabernet Sauvignon and Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot are treated to traditional European winemaking, open vat vinification, regular racking, hand plunging and assemblage between the first and second ferments. Matured thirty three months in a selection of seasoned French oak barrels.
Deep ruby colour. Dark cherry and vanilla bean on the bouquet, sage and licorice, briar wood and soy. An elegant, full bodied wine with great concentration of fruit, dark cherries and berry flavours, roasted coffee and dark chocolates. Made for early drinking and will continue to evolve, a richly concentrated effort with intense ripe flavours, ample black fruit characters, delicate complexity and supple spice. The tannins are fine but firm, striking the balance between power and finesse, before a long, lasting finish. Exhibits an elegance rarely found amongst her mainland siblings.
