Tar Roses Heathcote Sangiovese 2007

Sangiovese is a thin skinned grape, known for its earthyness as opposed to fruit. It has attractive mid red colour and can be characterised by high levels of tannin well balanced by acid. It is suited to well drained soils with abundant sunlight, both of which are characteristic of Heathcote.

Tar Roses Heathcote Shiraz 2008

A firm backbone of Shiraz from the Cambrian soils of Heathcote, embellished by a smaller component from the temperate climes of Nagambie Lakes. Heathcote dictates a rounder, fuller, fruit driven wine, Nagambie contributes elegance and restraint. A portion of Strathbogie Cabernet tempers the intensity, a dash of Tempranillo adds complexity, balance and structure.

Tar Roses Miro 2006

A complex assembly of Grenache and Carineña grown to the Denominació d'origen Priorato, espoused by an equally stirring addition of Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon. Priorat is a long forgotten winegrowing area, highly salubrious in it's time, it was ravaged by phyloxera and abandoned in the nineteenth century. The rocky, steeply sloped, mineralite soils have been rediscovered by Don Lewis and Narelle King who take time out from their operations in Victoria once a year to vinify the parched and precious fruit of Merum Priorati.

Tar Roses Pinot Grigio 2012

Don Lewis spent thirty five years at Mitchelton. He travels to Spain each year where he makes wine for Merum Priorati, returning to Australia just in time for vintage. Harvests of Pinot Grigio grown to the cooler altitudes of Billie's vineyard at Merron Park, Browns Whitland & Bungamero in the Victorian Alpines, evolve delicious varietal pear flavours. The warmer climes of Stratford at Nagambie bring out gorgeous tropical characters. An assemblage from both climes constructs a luscious wine that's heaven sent for swordfish or tuna steaks.

Tar Roses Shiraz 2010

Winemaker Don Lewis adores the tannins, structure and electrifying expressions of Spanish wine. Fruit for Tar & Roses is harvested off two elite Heathcote vineyards, much of which must be hand picked, all components are treated separately throughout their fermentations and ageing. The larger volume of Shiraz comes from richer Cambrian soils, while the smaller parcel is grown to much tougher gravelly, grantic soils. The first component makes a rounder, fuller fruit driven wine with intense chocolate and earth characters, the latter contributes elegance and restraint.

Tar Roses Tempranillo 2011

A pure Tempranillo wine by one of Australia's most devoted purveyors of the style. In contrast to her sibling Nebbiolo and Sangiovese varietals, Tempranillo is an early ripener without any problem achieving full maturity in the ferrous soils of Heathcote. It is prone to developing big bunches and luscious fruit when the vineyard provides restraint.
