Wines by The Crossings

The Crossings Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc 2010
Marlborough is recognised throughout the world as the source of stunning cool climate wines. From vineyards established in 1990s, The Crossings is one of a small group of pioneering Awatere Valley winegrowers, deriving it's name from a ford used by early settlers to cross the fast flowing river which forms a pristine southern boundary to three vineyards, Medway, Willow Flat and Brackenfield Estate. The low vigour soils and dry climate produce grapes with intense fruit flavours, infused by a delightful minerality for the production of truly stunning wines.

As one of the Awatere Valley's ground breaking winemakers, the Crossing's three principal vineyards are brilliantly positioned and well established. Nestled along the northern banks of the Awatere River, the trio of sites are all individual in character yet share qualities which make for some of Marlborough's most expressive and intense Sauvignon Blanc. With the exception of a tiny proportion which is treated to vinification in seasoned oak barriques, the crushed grapes are fermented in tank at the coldest temperatures possible. Upon completion, the finished wine is given a long settling period to integrate before a gentle filtration ahead of an early bottling to capture freshness an vitality. Alcohol 13.5%
Vivid colour with subtle green hue. Dried cut grass with herb and stoneflint compliment passionfruit and pungent citrusy aromas. Opens with a wonderfully vibrant freshness, developing floral and peachy characters. Ripe zesty citrus flavours build through the succulent juicy acidity and signature minerality to the long finish. A superb food friendly wine that's a match to goat cheese and asparagus.
