The No.1 Dry red is 80% Cabernet Sauvignon with the rest Cabernet Franc, Merlot and Petit Verdot. After a few years trials Yarra Yering made the macerated component of the No.1 blend dominant. "This artisanal winery produces what must be the most idiosyncratic/eccentric wines of Australia. It is a structured, big, distinctive Australian red boasting loads of complexity and character. It should drink well for a decade. I suspect if the late recluse of Chateauneuf du Pape, Jacques Reynaud, were reincarnated in Australia, he might be making the wines at this backwater address!" -Robert Parker

Yarra Yering's Dry Reds are flagship Australian wines based around complex varietal blends. Assigning the evolving Cepage bin numbers has liberated the winemaker to modify the mix as the styles evolve. The No.2 Dry Red this year is a perfumed, mostly Shiraz wine, rich and generous, co-fermented with tiny volumes of Viognier and Marsanne for vibrancy, suppleness and an extra dimension to its range of expression.
