Graeme Melton and a mate were travelling across South Australia in 1973, their EH Holden was in dire need of maintenance and Graeme took up casual work at a passing winery. The site supervisor was Peter Lehmann and young Graeme had his epiphany on the road to Barossa Valley. Lehmann suggested that Graeme change his name to Charlie and take the pilgrimmage to Vallee Rhone. Charlie became prepossessed with the culture of old vines Grenache, Shiraz and Mourverdre. He returned to the Barossa, at a time when old vineyard fruit was made into flagon Port and growers were destroying their historic sites in return for government grants. Charlie emabarked on a crusade to conserve and restore the ancient vines,.. Melton makes a mean mourvedre»
Geoff Hardy's family have been making Australian wine since 1857. Geoff grew up amongst the most distinguished vineyards in our land and he knows from good red wine. He retains access to the finest fruit in McLaren Vale and is the man behind many of our nation's most memorable vintages. Undercover is a moniker that Geoff has assigned to a collation of exceptional parcels, albeit bottled behind an abstruse label to secrete the provenance of a spectacular Shiraz. Right around the time that Frank Potts was planting his nascent Bleasdale Vineyards during the 1850s, an eccentric Prussian named Herman Daenke established a homestead along the banks of Bremer River, which he called Metala. The site was planted to viticulture by Arthur Formby in 1891 and became one of Langhorne Creek's most productive vineyards, it continues to supply fruit for a number of prestigious national brands. Legendary winemaker Brian Dolan took the radical step of bottling Metala under its own label in 1959 and won the inaugural Jimmy Watson Trophy in 1962. Two generations later, the brothers Tom and Guy Adams took a similar leap of faith and branded their Metala fruit as Brothers In Arms. The.. The goodly farms of brothers in arms»

Grenache Shiraz Mourvedre Languedoc France
Château des Karantes is a magnificent vineyard situated within the La Clape Appellation on Coteaux du Languedoc at the southwest of France. The domaine lies in a small valley just two minutes away from the Mediterranean between the seaside resort towns of Narbonne Plage and St. Pierre sur Mer. The site is named after a historic Bishop of Carcassonne who owned the estate hundreds of years ago. A cepage of Grenache, Syrah and Mourverdre are fashioned into an exciting wine of piquant fruit characters and crisp, refreshing tannins.
Domaine de Karantes is 190 hectares of choice viticultural property, many of which are currently under vine, nestled in the Mediterranean Garrigue. The vineyards extend along the limestone, clay and rocky slopes which form the Massif or ridge of La Clape. Breathtaking views offer a beautiful panorama of the Pyrenees mountains visible in the distance. Grenache, Mourverdre, Syrah and Mourverdre grapes are hand picked off vines planted to clay and limestone soils, sorted and gravity transferred to 60 hectolitres oak vats. Vinification and macerations can last for up to a month and are followed by ageing in a collection of well seasoned 300 and 600 litres French oak barrels and larger format oak tanks.
Dark plum colour with scarlet hues. The nose exhibits dominant Grenache characters of caramel, tobacco and toasty nut accents. The delicious palate offers black fruit and berry flavours, ripe cherries and plum. A velvety mouthfeel and nicely drying tannins, well balanced, supple and round. In the spicey, savoury style of the Mediterranean, ready to enjoy upon release with red meat, game and cheese.
