Right around the time that Frank Potts was planting his nascent Bleasdale Vineyards during the 1850s, an eccentric Prussian named Herman Daenke established a homestead along the banks of Bremer River, which he called Metala. The site was planted to viticulture by Arthur Formby in 1891 and became one of Langhorne Creek's most productive vineyards, it continues to supply fruit for a number of prestigious national brands. Legendary winemaker Brian Dolan took the radical step of bottling Metala under its own label in 1959 and won the inaugural Jimmy Watson Trophy in 1962. Two generations later, the brothers Tom and Guy Adams took a similar leap of faith and.. The goodly farms of brothers in arms»

After founding Mornington's eminent Moorooduc Estate and decades crafting the most memorable vintages for Mornington's leading brands, Richard McIntyre established a tiny, single hectare vineyard, on a prominent, high elevation site at Arthur's Seat, with a view to producing limited yields of the most exquisite small batch wines. The techniques of choice are wild yeast ferments, minimal intervention and good French oak, with a nod to traditional Burgundian practices, which allow the wines to speak of provenance, express their specificity of clone and articulate their sense of place. There's not much Bellingham made but every bottle passes through the hands of.. Limited editions by the master of moorooduc»

Not much has changed at the Glenfiddich Distillery since the first spirit ran from the stills on Christmas Day 1887. It is still independently owned and run by the fifth generation of the same family. Glenfiddich's modern day Malt masters maintain the refinement of this superior brand through a single-minded dedication to craftsmanship and quality throughout every stage of production. The Glenfiddich craftsmen have created a complex, mellow Single Malt Scotch whisky from years of patient maturation in casks which have previously held Sherry and Bourbon. It is secreted away in the distillery's traditional warehouse, where the cool, thick stone walls and low ceilings mature the whisky to perfection.
From the source of the Robbie Dhu springs, the water is piped directly to the distillery and not even cattle or sheep are allowed in the vicinity. Glenfiddich Ancient Reserve 18 Year Old shows an elegant nose, faintly sweet, with scents of apple and wood. It is robust and full-bodied, but remarkably mellow. A slightly sweet palate, perfectly balanced by subtle oak and a delicate maltiness leads to a soft whisky finish, calm and long lasting.
