The Australian winemaking industry is grateful to Leontine O'Shea, instrumental in the establishment of Mount Pleasant wines, she sent her son Maurice to France for an education in viticulture right at the outbreak of World War I, gifting him his first Hunter Valley vineyard in 1921. Mount Pleasant are now custodians of some grand old sites, a canon of small, elite blocks of vine that yield a precious range of icon wines, which represent peerless value and readily disappear before release of the following vintage... Airline pilots make surprisingly good wine. Their appreciation of the sciences, a respect for the weather and a bird's eye view of the land, all invaluable to the winemaker's art. John Ellis would take every opportune weekend away from his regular New York Paris route, to pursue a passion for viticulture. He planted the first commercial Cabernet Merlot vines in the Hamptons and found time between trans atlantic flights to work vintages amongst the Grand Cru vineyards of La Bourgogne. Ellis ultimately made the great lifelong sea change in favour of our land downunder. He settled on a farmstead outside Leongatha, amongst the slow ripening pastures of Gippsland and established a vineyard called Bellvale. It.. Placing pinot amongst the pastures»
After founding Mornington's eminent Moorooduc Estate and decades crafting the most memorable vintages for Mornington's leading brands, Richard McIntyre established a tiny, single hectare vineyard, on a prominent, high elevation site at Arthur's Seat, with a view to producing limited yields of the most exquisite small batch wines. The techniques of choice are wild yeast ferments, minimal intervention and good French oak, with a nod to traditional Burgundian practices, which allow the wines to speak of provenance, express their specificity of clone and articulate their sense of place. There's not much Bellingham made but every bottle passes through the hands of a team member who has been involved with the.. Limited editions by the master of moorooduc»
Constructed during early settlement by a supervisor of colonial convicts, at the very epicentre of the market gardens which serviced Hobart, Clarence House is a heritage listed manor which remains largely unaltered since the 1830s. It passed through several hands before being acquired by the Kilpatricks in 1993, who answered the call of Bacchus and established the grounds to vine. There are now sixteen hectares of viticulture, several significant Burgundy clones of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, with smaller plantings of Sauvignon and Pinot Blanc, Merlot, Cabernet and Tempranillo. What's most unique about the Clarence House vineyards are the soils and topography, a number of northeast slopes which catch the.. Heirlooms of a hobart homestead»

Tempranillo Merlot Malbec Ribera Del Duero Spain
The history of Bodegas Vega Sicilia began in 1848, when Toribio Lecanda bought a 2,000 hectare property from the Marquis of Valbuena. In 1864, Eloy Lecanda established the wineworks which epitomise the romance of Tempranillo. Vega Sicilia continue to deliver concentrated and elegant wines.
Vega Sicilia is unquestionably a unique wine, one of the great Spanish classics. It's personality is derived from the quality of fruit and uncompromising attention to detail. At Vega Sicilia, the oak cask is an essential part of the vinification, forging a true consortium with the wine. In the same way that the grape is an achievement of the vineyard itself, it is essential for Vega Sicilia that most of the casks are coopered at the winery. A cepage of varying proportions, according to vintage, Tempranillo and Malbec, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon, Vega Sicilia Valbuena is treated to maturation in a selection of new and seasoned, French and American oak casks and larger format oak vats for up to three years.
Deep, garnet cherry colour. Brilliant nose, alive with bright violet scents and mature red fruit characters. Oak is present without being dominant. A complex, fleshy palate exhibiting exceptional structure. Integrated, layered red cherry and olive, savoury, dusty herbs and generous blackberry fruit flavours, inseparable from the aromatic oak and supportive, textured, velvet tannins. To accompany game sausages, braised mutton and open flame grilled meats.
