Established 1908, Redman's Coonawarra are still made by the Redman brothers from fruit grown to the original family parcels. The tradition began 1901 when Bill Redman, at the tender age of fourteen, made the journey to take up an apprenticeship at the John Riddoch wineworks and to labour amongst Coonawarra's founding vineyards. Bill Redman's earliest vintages were sold off to other companies but it was not until 1952 that the Redman family released their own wines under the moniker Rouge Homme. Redman was finally branded under its own label in 1966, it remains one of the most enduring marques in Coonawarra. Jack Mann reigns eternal as the greatest winemaker in the history of the Australian west. Jack Mann's son Tony grew up amongst the vineyards of Houghton but took a keener interest in things Cricket. He exelled at both pursuits but is best remembered as the legendary leg spinner Tony Rocket Mann. During his off seasons away from the pitch, Tony would plant parcels of vine alongside his illustruious father Jack and his own young son Robert. The fully grown Robert now makes his own wine, from fruit of the very vines sown by Jack and Tony Mann. An Irish cobbler named Reilly settled into the tiny Clare Valley township of Mintaro circa 1856. He converted a stone barn into a homestead cottage. Reilly's Cottage served as the local cobbler's shop in the centre of the bustling town, which had boomed after the establishment of salubrious slate quarries. But even the best fruit won't jump into a crusher by itself, so Punks help out a little in that respect. This beautiful tradeoff leaves plenty of time to talk and drink and then talk some more. And when it's time, they'll bottle it. Presto. Oh Sqiuddy, you've got just gorgeous legs, are they truly all yours? She's all cherries and cedarwood, raspberries and wild game, rhubarb and forest floor, cherry stones and kirsch. Squeeze me.

Some Young Punks
We wanted to do something that had been done before, to make exceptional wine with small estate charm

We blame the booze. The whiff and the swill did us in and all that was left to do was to make more. In many ways the wines that weren’t worth the pull on the cork caused this as much as the wines that we will never have the pleasure of decorking again.

Some Young Punks

The ethos is simple, to create charismatic wines that are true to what Some Young Punks think wine is about. This is Passion, a monster bigger than the three of us that leads us to soapbox, grandstand and sometimes pass out on the couch.

We believe that awesome wine is a powerful aid to creativity, there is always the danger that while drinking a bottle of Punks, you may also be pushed to acts of complete random. It keeps us ticking over.

I refer you, the jury, to the gaudy bottles of plonk stamped Some Young Punks. It's OK to judge a book by its cover , we judged the covers of books to decide on these labels.

Some Young Punks

We need you to see us, and we don't have lineage or tithe, not even a family crest to take up the papaer on the glass. These labels are as bright and bold as the wines they clothe.

Each wine, each vintage and each label is a moment that will never come again, a winemaker should only ever promise to be consistently good, not just consistent.

Each time we make a wine it may be the last wine we make, and if it isn't worthy of being the last then it will not wear the Some Young Punks name.
