Distinguished Langtons Classification. An outstanding vintage release of the finest Cabernet Sauvignon, as crafted by one of Australia's grand old wineries, collated from superior vineyards in Coonawarra, winner this year of a breathtaking three Trophies and five Gold Medals. Johann Gramp planted his first vines on the banks of Jacob's Creek in 1847, Hugo was his grandson, the patriarch of Orlando Wines.

Fruit is sourced from precious old blocks of fully mature Cabernet Sauvignon vines planted to Coonawarra Terra rossa over limestone soils. Grapes are destemmed and crushed, each unique parcel is treated to an individual vinification process in static fermenters. Extraction of colour, flavour and tannin are achieved by regular pumpovers, allowing the fermenting juices to percolate through the skins, within a temperature range of 15C to 28C. Ferments are held on skins for twelve to twenty days before draining and pressing, rack and return. The wines are matured eighteen to twenty four months in a selection of new and one year old French oak hogsheads before the final assemblage. Alcohol 14.5%
Full depth red with crimson hues. Intense blackberry and cassis with minty notes and spicy oak. Concentrated blackberry, cassis and mint on the palate with supple velvety tannins and integrated cedary oak. The ripe and intense fruit flavours make St Hugo a match with eye fillet of beef, jus and potatoes.

A true visionary and a man of great intellect, Hugo Gramp was a linguist, businessman and expert winemaker who felt a great sense of connection with Australian terroir, which he proved to the world, could create internationally acclaimed, award winning fine wines. The modern iteration of St Hugo was launched with the 1980 vintage to honour Hugo Gramp, the grandson of Johann Gramp who planted his first vines in the Barossa Valley in 1847. Hugo Gramp succeeded his father at the head of the Gramp & Sons family business, at the age of 25. Hugo's leadership and passion for wine set the company on a path of extraordinary growth.

The St Hugo crest is a contemporary update of the Gramp family moniker designed by Hugo Gramp himself. The Latin words Vetus and Purum, that Hugo chose to adorn the crest, reflect his belief that fine wine starts with terroir and in the vineyards. Vetus means ancient and refers to ancient soils and vines of the Barossa Valley – the oldest in the world.

Purum meaning purity, is a reference to the most remote and unadulterated wine region on earth, South Australia's Coonawarra. Together, Ancient Purity talks to the guiding principles Hugo believed to be important from the very beginning of the highest quality fine wines winemaking process.
