Evelyn County Chardonnay 2005 CONFIRM 2005 VINTAGE

Evelyn County Chardonnay 2005 - Buy
Chardonnay Yarra Valley Victoria
Evelyn County Estate continues to make thumping award winning Chardonnays. Chardonnay was one of the first three varieties to be planted at the vineyard in 95, whilst the first vintage Chardonnay was selected to be included on the Sydney Opera House's Bennalong Restaurant wine list. The year's growing season allowed for ideal fruit ripeness, whilst maintaining perfect natural acidity, a feature that is becoming pleasingly predictable in fruit sourced from the Evelyn County vineyard. The fruit displayed an intensity and power that carried through to the nose and the palate of the resulting wine.
Fruit was picked on the basis of sensory analysis, the characteristics sought following the more citrus flavour profile needed to match the relatively high natural acidity normally achieved in the Estate's best Chardonnay. Good sugar levels converted to an alcohol of 14. However, the power and richness of the fruit carried the relatively high alcohol without residual hotness on the palate. Likewise, 12 months wood maturation in Damy and Remond French oak hogsheads provides a seamless fruit and wood integration that also gives this wine the propensity to age well. 23.6o Brix pH 3.44 with cropping levels approx 3 tonne/acre.
Colour is a soft and delightful straw gold. A fine bouquet of peach, melon, lime and nutty aromas. A bright zesty medium bodied wine with a rich front palate, tasting of lemon sherbet fruit that continues smoothly with great length and power to finish to finish with subtle toasty oak. A classic Yarra Valley Chardonnay, born and bred to suit a wide variety of full-flavoured dishes such as pasta with creamy sauces, pork, chicken and veal. Enjoy now and until 2009.

Only grapes which achieve ideal ripeness, intense fruit flavour and natural acidity characteristic of premium cool climate fruit are used in the production of Evelyn County Estate wines. Viticultural practices such as hand pruning and hand picking, a well established Integrated Pest Management program and a unique trellising design eliminates the need for excessive chemical additives both in the vineyard and at the Winery - a feature increasingly important to the well informed wine consumer.

Small parcels of red grapes are hand-plunged during fermentation to maximise colour and flavour extraction. White wines are made reductively to retain and enhance fruit freshness, flavour and aroma. The Evelyn County winery aim for longevity with natural high acidity, powerful fruit characteristics, ageing in French oak and bold tannin structure. These wines can be cellared and are immediately delicious at any time after their release date.

Winemaking leadership comes from James Lance of the esteemed Lance family of Diamond Valley Vineyards' fame. His uncompromising commitment to quality is well known within the Australian and international wine industry context. The results speak for themselves in terms of the multiple medals and industry accolades achieved in both regional and interstate wine shows, newspaper and magazine reviews since the inaugural 1998 vintage.
