Established 1973, Woodlands of Wilyabrup were one of the first vineyards in Margaret River, planted with a view to emulating the great growths of Bordeaux. Recipients of the highly prestigious Jack Mann Memorial Medal and Wine Industry Lifetime Achievement Award for their tremendous vintages of all things Cabernet. Assembling the rich Medoc style blends are what Woodlands do best. Painstakingly crafted by hand, to challenge the primacy of the illustrious Chateaux de la rive gauche, very few vineyards yield the quality of fruit that merits vintaging into a statuesque wine dominated by the prettily fragrant Cabernet Franc. Planted to the tranquil Shangri-La of a sun warmed slope in Yarra Valley, TarraWarra was established 1983 by the founders of the Sussan and Sportsgirl brands. Healthy soils and happy fauna were the means to an end, good wine comes from a sound ecology, but great wine needs the inspiration of a holistic engagement with the arts. It is here at Healesville that habitues can savour the Sauvignon while immersing themselves amongst the work of our national masters. A costly collection of canvas by our merry Messrs Boyd.. Stephen has judged on the national circuit since the early 1980s and is a long-time judge at the Adelaide and National Wine Shows.
Medium straw colour. Excellent mousse and fine bead, aromas of vanilla and chalk-lime, buttery nuances and milk bottle characters. Complex but contented bouquets that grip like a ying and yang, fresh creamy fruit, nuts and toastiness, citrus and confectionary, amazingly integrated with the freshest compliments of warm, yeasty, leesy characters. A slight twist towards the traditional as the palate tiptoes between the richness and orchardy fruit characters. An exceptional Clare sparkler with the inimitable grapey chalkiness of the locality, peachy and refreshingly minerally, clean with attractive acid a consistent creaminess throughout.
