Old Richmond Gaol was one of Diemen Land's first prisons, built by the convicts themselves, of good old fashioned granite blocks, laboriously hauled in wooden hand carts and quarried from the ominously monikered Butchers Hill. Today, Butchers Hill is the site of the steepest sloping vineyard in Coal River Valley, invigorated by afternoon sea breezes and prevailing winds from the roaring forties, its highly auspicious, self mulching black Vertosols, yield extraordinary wines. Established by founding members of the Hobart Beefsteak & Burgundy Club, Butchers Hill represents three generations of passion amongst the nether vineyards of the Apple Isle. Not just a.. Planted to a steep north facing slope, under the shades of an ancient sawmill, very near the estuaries Mersey and Don, the measured yields of an elite little vineyard are hand picked for vinification by the illustrious Josef Chromy wineworks at Relbia. Highly specialised with the effusive sparkling styles and aromatic whites, winners Winestate Alternative Varietal of Year, the barriques of Barringwood are percolating parcels of Pinot Noir, which are setting a benchmark for the artisanal boutique estates of Devonport and greater Launceston. Barringwood are grown within a unique mesoclime, the longest growing season in Tasmania, each bottle is remarkable for its.. Ardour of affection on the apple isle»
Returned servicemen from the Great War could look forward to government grants of pastoral freehold. West Australia's Willyabrup Valley was such a place, just a short walk from the balmy beaches of Indian Ocean, it offered the veterans excellent potential for agriculture. The fertile lands of Sussex Vale were originally established to animal husbandry by the discharged troopers, generations of livestock enriched the soils and it was astutely sown to vines in 1973. Fortuitously placed at the very heart of the Australian west's most illustrious estates, it continued to occupy the thoughts of neighbouring Howard Park's chief winemaker, until he acquired the.. Planted to the tranquil Shangri-La of a sun warmed slope in Yarra Valley, TarraWarra was established 1983 by the founders of the Sussan and Sportsgirl brands. Philanthropists and patrons of the arts, Mr and Mrs Besen, AO and AO respectively, took a highly aesthetic approach to the pursuit of viticulture. Healthy soils and happy fauna were the means to an end, good wine comes from a sound ecology, but great wine needs the inspiration of a holistic engagement with the arts. It is here at Healesville that habitues can savour the Sauvignon while immersing themselves amongst the work of our national masters. A costly collection of canvas by our merry Messrs Boyd.. Plozner Friuli Grave Pinot Grigio 2010 CONFIRM 2010 VINTAGE

Plozner Friuli Grave Pinot Grigio 2010 - Buy
Pinot Gris Grigio Grave del Friuli Italy
Lizio Plozner was a visionary who established his organically managed and environmentally friendly Pinot Grigio vineyards on the foothills of Grave del Friuli in the 1960s. Situated not far from the Alps and close to the region's picturesque morainic hills, the estate has grown to sixty hectares under vine and remains firmly in family hands. The climes of Grave del Friuli are idyllic for Pinot Grigio, cool and dry, they ripen healthy grapes. This vital and refreshing wine is vinified and cellared under the subterranean vaults of the Plozner wineworks.
The Plozner wines reflect their own region of origin. Fresh and flavourful with a characteristic crispness and universal appeal, they are aromatically complex with profound varietal definition and true personality. Terrain stones and gravels deposited by the Meduna and Tagliamento Rivers make up the soils on which the vines are planted. Alluvial in origin yet not very fertile, the soils guarantee excellent drainage, low vegetative vigor and naturally small crop yields. The colourful Pinot Grigio grapes are treated to a gentle press and vinification in bianco without maceration, before a spell of tank maturation under the winery's subterranean vaults. Plozner Pinot Grigio is bottled seven months after harvest. Approx 12.5%
Bright straw colour. A well balanced, elegant wine with pungent bouquet, light and fragrant in youth, showing depth and personality. Fresh notes of apples and exotic fruit evolve to nuances of dried fruits and hay. The palate is full, very mellow and round, with good body and acid balance and immediate appeal. A refreshing, medium bodied dry white, Plozner is a great match for risotti, pastas and fish.
