Stephen George grew up amongst the grape vines, very near the hamlet of Reynella and the nascent Skillogalee in Valley Clare. Both salubrious sites which were originally planted to vine by George senior in 1970. Stephen's pioneering work at Ashton Hills was a major catalyst for the development of Adelaide Hills as an internationally renowned wine growing region. Along with the eminent Brian Croser, Stephen was one of the principals who placed Adelaide Hills on the map, resolved to produce the best Pinot Noir in the country and bring global fame to the Adelaide Hills Piccadilly Pinot style... Samuel Smith migrated from Dorset England to Angaston in the colony of South Australia circa 1847, he took up work as a gardener with George Fife Angas, the virtual founder of the colony. In 1849, Smith bought thirty acres and planted vines by moonlight, the first ever vintages of Yalumba. One of his most enduring legacies were some unique clones of Shiraz, which were ultimately sown to the illustrious Mount Edelstone vineyard in 1912. Angas's great grandchild Ron Angas acquired cuttings from the Edelstone site and migrated the precious plantings to his pastures at Hutton Vale. The land remains in family hands, a graze for flocks of some highly fortunate lamb. In between the paddocks, blocks of Sam Smith's experimental vines yield a harvest of the most spectacular Shiraz to be found in all Eden Valley... The return of rootstock to garden of eden»

Clos Figueras Font de la Figuera 2012 CONFIRM 2012 VINTAGE

Grenache Carignan Shiraz Mourvedre Cabernet Sauvignon Priorat Spain
When Charlotte and Christopher Cannan acquired Figueras in 1997, the primary attraction of the estate was a block of old Cariñena and Grenache vines, surrounded by an endowment of fallow terraces which beckoned to be brought back to productive health. Two decades later, the younger plantings of Cabernet, Mourvedre and Syrah are now fully mature, grown to grueling llicorella soils, capable of only the most frugal yields, picked by hand and treated to traditional open vat ferments, the fruit of a remarkable region which has been making wine for millennia.
Cherry colour, bright violet hues. Wild red fruit notes, currant and plum bouquets, toastyness and cummin, caraway and smoke. A fresh palate of ripe punnett flavours, blueberries and olive, dried herbs, tomato leaf and milled spice, seamlessly structured on a length of powdery tannins, elegant, lingering, supported by a veneer of supple cocoa oak.
