Old Richmond Gaol was one of Diemen Land's first prisons, built by the convicts themselves, of good old fashioned granite blocks, laboriously hauled in wooden hand carts and quarried from the ominously monikered Butchers Hill. Today, Butchers Hill is the site of the steepest sloping vineyard in Coal River Valley, invigorated by afternoon sea breezes and prevailing winds from the roaring forties, its highly auspicious, self mulching black Vertosols, yield extraordinary wines. Established by founding members of the Hobart Beefsteak & Burgundy Club, Butchers Hill represents three generations of passion amongst the nether vineyards of the Apple Isle. Not just a.. Sandro Mosele is one of Victoria's most accomplished vignerons, his celebrated editions of Kooyong and Port Phillip estates are amongst the most cherished renderings of Burgundy styled Pinot Noir in the nation. Mosele has applied his art to a precious parcel of fruit, picked off a single, modest block of vine, grown to the fully fertile soils of a lamb and beef stud, on the brisk, maritime blown coastals of Gippsland South. This is not Pinot for profit, Walkerville represents an aesthetic appreciation of fruit from the farmer, invigorated by the blessings of providence and consecrations of local livestock. A cornucopia of comely characters, forcemeats and.. The grazier's garden of gippsland»
Mount Difficulty are a commune of growers, established 1998 within the elite dress circle of Central Otago vineyards. Propitiously placed around the ancient goldfields of Cromwell Basin, their harvests had long been called upon for bottling under the labels of New Zealand's most conspicuous brands. Launched as a limited release of small batch, single block vintages, the co operative of accomplished growers, has evolved through critical acclaim and word of mouth, into a formidable range of Central Otago, defined by their excellence and exquisite eloquence of.. Just a few kilometres north of Lowburn, near the windswept shores of frigid Lake Dunstan, atop the parched and laborious terroirs of Central Otago, a high country merino stud between the Amisfield and Parkburn streams was sown to vineyards two decades ago. Grazing country makes magnificent viticulture, the austere alluvial and glacial schist soils now yield the quality of Pinot Noir which has defined Central Otago as the world's most demonstrable marque in full bodied, intensely complex, yet beguilingly seamless Pinot Noir. The challenging terraces which spiral around the fractious knolls of Amisfield Vineyard, sire a sensational range of wines defined by.. Satiations from the nethermost regions»

Not much has changed at the Glenfiddich Distillery since the first spirit ran from the stills on Christmas Day 1887. It is still independently owned and run by the fifth generation of the same family. Glenfiddich's modern day Malt masters maintain the refinement of this superior brand through a single-minded dedication to craftsmanship and quality throughout every stage of production. The Glenfiddich craftsmen have created a complex, mellow Single Malt Scotch whisky from years of patient maturation in casks which have previously held Sherry and Bourbon. It is secreted away in the distillery's traditional warehouse, where the cool, thick stone walls and low ceilings mature the whisky to perfection.
From the source of the Robbie Dhu springs, the water is piped directly to the distillery and not even cattle or sheep are allowed in the vicinity. Glenfiddich Ancient Reserve 18 Year Old shows an elegant nose, faintly sweet, with scents of apple and wood. It is robust and full-bodied, but remarkably mellow. A slightly sweet palate, perfectly balanced by subtle oak and a delicate maltiness leads to a soft whisky finish, calm and long lasting.
