James and John Chivas evisioned a luxury blended whisky that could be relied upon for quality and consistency. The art of blending is to harmonise the flavours from Scotland's finest malt and grain whiskies to produce a blend of the highest order, year on year. Each malt and grain whisky selected for a blend has its own individual character and flavour. Malt whiskies from the Highlands have fruity, spicy characters; Lowlands whiskies have light, gentle, floral notes; and from Islay, whiskies have powerful smoky, pungent qualities.
James and John Chivas were originally purveyors of the highest quality pure and single malt whiskies. Strathisla is produced at the oldest, and arguably the most beautiful distillery in the Highlands of Scotland. Strathisla has always been essential to ensure the rich and generous taste of Chivas Regal. This, and many other fine malts from throughout Scotland, are brought together with the highest quality grain whiskies to produce Chivas Regal. Chivas Regal never actually owned a distillery until 1950, when the company acquired the Strathisla distillery, retaining the precious stocks of Strathisla single malt whisky for Chivas Regal
