Every bottle of Absolut is produced at Åhus in southern Sweden and contains over a kilo of grain. A town of 10,000 inhabitants, Åhus may not be big enough to show up on a world atlas, but the Vodka distilled there is enjoyed around the globe. From the hardy winter wheat that grows nearby, to the deep, well drawn water, the environs of Åhus provides the Absolut with all the natural ingredients to distill the world's finest Vodka.
The precursor of today's Absolut was introduced in 1879 by Swedish entrepreneur Lars Olsson Smith, also known as Vodka king. The medallion on every bottle bears his portrait. Every drop must be distilled hundreds of times before it can be called Absolut Vodka. Centuries of experience has shown that winter wheat produces superior Vodka. Producing Vodka from a single location using local ingredients ensures that every drop meets the highest quality standard. Even the famous Absolut Vodka bottle, inspired by an eighteenth century Swedish medicine bottle is blown near the Åhus distillery. Before they are filled, every bottle is rinsed with Absolut Vodka
