Hurtle Walker first picked grapes as a ten year old on the celebrious Magill property in 1900. Apprenticed to the legenderies Monsieur Duray and Leon Mazure, Walker was placed in charge of sparkling wine production for the historic Auldana Cellars at the ripe old age of 21. He saw service as a soldier in World War I and made great wine until 1975. Constructed during early settlement by a supervisor of colonial convicts, at the very epicentre of the market gardens which serviced Hobart, Clarence House is a heritage listed manor which remains largely unaltered since the 1830s. A rich Anejo made from a blend of light and heavy molasses Rums, aged for a minimum of eight years in charred American oak bourbon barrels. In 1932 a great fire destroyed the Trinidad & Tobago Government Rum Bond. Joseph Bento Fernandes, master blender and owner of Fernandes Distillery, seized the moment and bought the charred casks only to discover that the Rum within had aged and developed magnificently. This prize Rum was artisanally blended and called 1919 Super Premium Rum, so named for the very year it was casked.
