William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. His son planted vines in nearby McLaren Vale and his grandson served a term as winemaker for Hardy Wines at the historic Tintara wineworks. William Maxwell's progeny remain in McLaren Vale, producing the southern hemisphere's most successful brands of Honey Mead, as well as vintages of the most extraordinary value in McLaren Vale Shiraz. Situated in the valley of Forgue, nearby Huntly in Aberdeenshire, GlenDronach lies at the threshold of Speyside, nestled within outstanding scenic panoramas and a pristine environment. GlenDronach 12 Year Old is non chill filtered and matured in a selection of the finest Oloroso and Pedro Ximinez Sherry casks.
Deep amber, cherry wood sheen. Delicate mix of ripe autumnal fruits, blackberries and plum, candied orange, spiced oatmeal and toasted oak. Flavours of fine Oloroso Sherry and bitter chocolate sauce over festive plum pudding, infused with fabulous spicy notes, cinnamon, allspice and nutmeg. Full bodied finish with smooth tannins.
