The modern style of Australian Chardonnay, drawing on Penfolds extensive vineyard resources, Rawson's Retreat guarantees the drinker a thoroughly enjoyable taste of everyday wine at its very best. Exacting standards of viticultural management throughout the growing season ensures the winemaking team receive a quality of fruit that's worthy of the Penfold label. Careful vinification techniques are employed to ensure the wine retains all the virtue of the vineyard, while adding a measure of complexity through lees stirring and several months maturation under a selection of the finest oak, which also contributes balance and rich mouthfeel.
Pale straw with lime green edges. Orchard notes, white peach and green melon are lifted by freshly grated lemon rind. Grapefruit and white peach flavours are generous, yet lithe on the palate. Citrus acidity provides line and length with subtle texture and spice from oak maturation. Clean, fresh and vibrant. The creamy mid palate is supported by a tropical fruit core for a wine that's structured to please.

Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 2005 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Penfolds Bin 128 remains one of the purest editions within the Penfolds stable. Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 2010
Penfolds Bin 128 Coonawarra Shiraz 2010 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line In 1960 Bill Redman persuaded Max Schubert to acquire a parcel of Coonawarra Terra rossa soil and the Bin 128 experience was born. It was originally labelled as Claret, and whilst the quality of Shiraz has increased immeasurably ever since, very little has changed about how Bin 128 is made, it's vinification follows the traditional Penfolds house style. One of the few Penfold wines which are sourced exclusively from a specific region, Bin 128 reflects the uniqueness of Coonawarra and the elegant, stylish expressions of cooler climate Terra rossa Shiraz.

Penfolds Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre 2011
Penfolds Bin 138 Shiraz Grenache Mourvèdre 2011 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line The Barossa Valley was planted extensively to Grenache, Mourvedre and Shiraz by early settlers. In the 1950s Penfolds started experimenting with the blend, trials which culminated in the release of Bin 138s forebears. An answer to the growing call for the highly perfumed and fleshy Rhone style of red, Bin 138 is sourced from old, low yielding Barossa Valley sites, much of the fruit from independent growers. This is a very special Penfolds red wine indeed, one of the few that remains in component form whilst maturing in small, well seasoned oak barrels.

Bin number 144 is derived from the total number of trials undertaken in the wine's development. The aspiration and independence of mind that the late Max Schubert brought to Penfolds winemaking philosophy inspired the winery to embark on the project of creating a white wine that would one day rival the standards of Penfolds Grange. Finely interwoven and seamlessly presented, the 1999 is a standout Chardonnay of impeccable pedigree with an extended, elegant finish.

Penfolds Bin 389 2009 1.5L MAGNUM

In combination, they form a genre of their own, a wine of power, and generousity of fruit, richness, finesse and longevity. Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1991
Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1991 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Cabernet Sauvignon was at the heart of, Penfolds patriarch Max Schubert's quest for the singular, and first growth, grand Australian red. He partially succeeded, in that Cabernet traditionally makes up a tiny proportion of the finished Grange cuvee. The best batches of sophisticated Cabernet fruit are always reserved for the Bin 707, if and only if, the quality of the vintage meets Penfolds exacting standards for what is arguably Australia's best Cabernet wine. A warm sunny growing season, arriving on the back of the outstanding vintage from the previous year.

Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1993
Penfolds Bin 707 Cabernet Sauvignon 1993 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line When Max Schubert returned from Bordeaux and began his quest to make a great Australian wine, his mind was on Cabernet Sauvignon. Schubert experimented with Cabernet as the possible contender for his Grange project. He recognised however, that the finest Australian Cabernet vineyards could not always deliver the consistency of quality he needed, nor could it supply the volume required for a commercially viable fine wine. ln the end, pragmatism won the day, and plans to craft a pure Penfolds Cabernet Sauvignon were delayed until the inaugural 1964 vintage.

Penfolds Grange 1994 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line There's a noticeable cabernet component here (it's 11% cabernet), giving the flavour profile a noticeable hit of blackcurrant and a more elongated, bony, tannin-driven structure. Still, the palate does come with flights of deep, dense, dark blackberry and crushed ants, and there's a thick, malty, mentholly hit, particularly on the finish. Again, the striking thing here is the wine's balance. Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1.5L MAGNUM 1984
Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1.5L MAGNUM 1984 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Max Schubert's experimental work in the 1950s determined that South Australian Cabernet was unreliable, he recognised that Grange should be based around a spectrum of fruit. One of the great strengths of Grange is, whilst mostly a Shiraz, it does not rely on the performance of a single vineyard. From fruit grown at the Kalimna and other Barossa vineyards, Magill Estate in Adelaide, and other superior vineyards in the Coonawarra, McLaren Vale and Clare Valley, the 1984 is balanced with a small amount of Cabernet Sauvignon 5%.

Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1.5L MAGNUM 1989
Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1.5L MAGNUM 1989 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line A very hedonistic, almost decadent style of Grange, gorgeously opulent, almost Pomerol-like Grange with an over-ripe characteristic to the fruit. Cherry liqueur intermixed with cranberry and cassis presented in a seductive, full-bodied, very soft, forward style is truly not the classic Grange in the sense of having huge structure and massive concentration, but this wine is loaded, very corpulent, and fleshy. The wine is going to last for up to two decades, but it will be uncommonly succulent and delicious to drink young.

Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1953
Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1953 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line 260 cases of this wine were produced. This is the first Grange to incorporate wine from the Kalimna region in the Barossa. This was a revelation. An astonishing, great wine with remarkable vigor and freshness, this wine has a dark garnet color with considerable amber at the edge. A sweet nose of mushrooms, roasted herbs, tar, red and black fruits, and underbrush is followed by a wine with considerable opulence, flesh, and vivacity. The wine has terrific harmony and a long finish. It is an amazing effort that should continue to drink well.

Penfolds 1954 Grange is extremely rare, a curio and valuable collector's item. All but extremely fine bottles are well past their peak. Internal criticism of Grange led Max Schubert to lighten the style slightly and the 1954 had only about nine months in oak. A loose knit palate with herbs and camomile, meaty mocha flavours and fine cedary tannins. A single batch was unintentionally oxidized before bottling, resulting in some bottle variation. Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1981
Penfolds Grange Hermitage 1981 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Winemaker John Duval called the 1981 a big, tannic Grange. It is just that, a very powerful, inky, purple-colored wine that is still almost primary and unevolved in its surprising youthfulness. This formidably endowed, broodingly backward, thick, full-bodied, muscular wine has a boatload of chocolate-infused plum, caramel, and cassis flavors. With high tannin, huge grip, and some propensity toward austerity, this is a monster Grange that may not totally assimilate the high levels of tannin, but there are plenty of reasons to be optimistic about its future.

Dr Penfold had a firm belief in the medicinal value of wine and obtained vine cuttings from the south of France, replanting them around his homestead at Rawson's Retreat.

Penfolds RWT Shiraz 2006 1.5L MAGNUM - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line RWT Shiraz presents an admirable alternative to the multi-regional sourcing and American oak maturation that are hallmarks of Grange, expressing instead, single-region Barossa Valley Shiraz matured only in French oak. Penfolds St Henri 2008
Penfolds St Henri 2008 - Buy Australian & New Zealand Wines On Line Outstanding Langtons Classification. Notwithstanding it's stately ranking in the pantheon of enduring Penfold wines, St Henri is remarkably approachable upon release, it remains accessible to most red wine enthusiasts in terms of drinkability and pecuniary value. St Henri's style is essentially fruit forward, the time spent ageing in an ancient collection of oversize, well used 1460 litre oak vats softens the tannins without infusing the wine with any obvious oak character. An Australian classic to savour alongside roast rack with root vegetable and sea parsley.
