The story of Langmeil begins with early Barossa settlement, planted to Shiraz by Christian Auricht in the 1840s, the estate vineyards were restored by the Lindner and Bitter families during the 1990s. Some of Herr Auricht's original plantings are still in production, three and a half priceless acres of gnarled, dry grown vines which provided the cuttings for much of Langmeil's refurbished heirloom parcels. Grand Marque Of Glenrowan»
Right next to the Merry Widow Inn at Glenrowan, infamous of Kelly gang folklore, Richard Bailey set up shop to service prospectors during the great Victorian gold rush of the 1860s. Rows of newly planted Shiraz soon followed and the Baileys released their first vintage in 1870. The region was ultimately infected by the terrible vine killing plague of the 1890s, a guarded blessing for Glenrowan, which elevated the quarantine status of its vitiated vineyards to a marque of the highest provenance. Yabby Lake are well positioned to produce the most generously proportioned styles of new world Pinot Noir, vinified to traditional Burgundian techniques. Significant resources have been devoted to developing Yabby Lake's vineyard to the highest possible standard. An assemblage of Pinot Noir clones MV6 and G5V15, clones 114, Pommard and Abel for structure and complexity, the inclusion of a parcel clone 115 imparts layers of elegance, rich fragrant aromas and a long silky palate.

Every aspect of Yabby Lake vineyard's establishment was fundamenal to the success of its wines many years later, from soil mapping to climate analysis to vine layout. Selection of site was the priority, the vineyard was planted from the ground up to the most exacting requirements. Pruned and closely managed vines, yield limited harvests of intense flavour, translating into well balanced wines. A mixture of destemmed and whole bunch fruit are filled into open fermenters for three days of cold soak. A week or more of ferments is followed by transfer to a selection of French 500 litres oak puncheons for ten months maturation, a final racking and assemblage into the finished wne.
Deep crimson in colour. The aromas are dominated by cherry, strawberry and dark berry fruits complemented by a touch of spice and underlying French oak. The palate has a lovely soft and velvety texture, with powerful flavours of dark fruits and a finely structured finish. Have it with duck or venison, game dishes and washed rind cheese.

Yabby Lake Vineyard was established in 1998 on Victoria's Mornington Peninsula, with the long-term goal of producing benchmark wines from the Burgundian varieties Pinot Noir and Chardonnay

Yabby Lake Vineyard is owned by Robert and Mem Kirby who have been intimately involved in the Mornington Peninsula region for decades. The Kirbys are joined by two outstanding and renowned winemakers: Group Winemaker Tod Dexter and Consulting Winemaker Larry McKenna. Tod and Larry are known for their relaxed and unassuming personalities, and they apply the same approach to their winemaking: they work with the grapes to develop beautiful and distinctly superior wines that are truly expressive of Yabby Lake Vineyard. The first vintage from Yabby Lake Vineyard was produced in 2002.

The stunning Mornington Peninsula is a patchwork of small premium wineries and vineyards. Located 60 kilometres southeast of Melbourne, the region is virtually surrounded by sea and enjoys a cool maritime climate. Established in 1998, Yabby Lake Vineyard is planted on one of the regions premier vineyard sites.

Inspired by the classic wines of Burgundy, Yabby Lake Vineyard wines are a tribute to the unique Mornington Peninsula terroir, and the skills and experience of winemakers Larry McKenna and Tod Dexter.
