Elderton Sparkling Shiraz 2008
	Elderton has a tradition of releasing a Sparkling Shiraz every decade or so. The first such wine was a sparkling burgundy from the pressings of Pinot Noir in 1988. This was a quirky wine, originally made for the exclusive enjoyment of the Ashmead family at special occasions. It is time to celebrate with bubbles again, the 30th anniversary of acquiring property from the descendants of Samuel Elderton Tolley in 1979. 	Each $44.99 Dozen $539.88	Elderton earmarked a small parcel of some amazing Shiraz fruit from the much heralded 2008 vintage to be vinified into a bright and vibrant sparkling Shiraz, which will surely impress those who love the style. From several estate blocks on the Nuriootpa floor vineyard that would develop deep blackberry fruitiness. Vines are grown to deep alluvial silt over red and brown earths and limestone, planted between 1975 and 1998. Vinification is carried out primarily in open concrete fermenters before a secondary traditional Methode champenoise in bottle before nine months oak maturation in old American and French oak hogsheads, followed by a final tirage in February and disgorgement in November. Alcohol 13.0%
	A persistent effervescence in a ruby/ purple coloured wine. Aromas of bramble and mint, anise, vanillan and chinese five spice. Complex fruit, pepper and plum on the nose and palate. Gentle oak contact has brought in subtle chocolatey notes, followed by the secondary fermentation in the bottle, which has also opened up strawberry and raspberry characters. "Scented with anise and cocoa, turkish delights and musk, purple to the eye and on the palate, like an effusive winegum with assertive tannins and spiced, gamey oak. If the colour and initial mousse of this wine doesn't excite you then the audacious aromatics and gallant palate will inspire you to take up the challenge and get stuck into that second bottle!" -Winemonthly.com.au
