Chapoutier Belleruche Cotes du Rhone 2007
Chapoutier has been a part of Rhône Valley viticulture since 1808. A cépage of Grenache and Syrah in equal proportions, Belleruche is a passionate expression of the Côtes du Rhône, sourced from vines planted to some of the most ancient winegrowing aspects in all France. "Ticks so many boxes. Good quality? That goes without saying. Green credentials? Biodynamically farmed. Rich, slightly smoky, black fruit flavors and firm structure with its silky tannins evoke the gnarled old vines twisting out of the hot, stony Rhône soil!" -thethriftygourmet.com

Les Vignobles providing fruit for the vinification of Belleruche are spread out across several appellations along the Côtes du Rhône, Drôme and Vaucluse, Gard and Ardèche. The vines are planted on slightly varied soils, alluvial clays, sand and limestones, a patchwork which contributes extraordinary richness and complexity to the final wine. Grapes are all hand harvested at full maturity, destemmed and macerated over a period of fifteen days, extracting tannins and developing good structure which permits the ageing and guarantees stability of the wine. Following inoculation and vinification in a selection of traditional fermenters, Belleruche is aged in large oak vats and assembled in the spring. Approx 14.0%
Garnet red in colour. Red fruit aromas, mainly morello cherries. Well-structured, with sustained tannins. "The finest Cotes du Rhone Chapoutier has yet made, it rivals Guigal’s offering as one of the two best negociant Cotes du Rhones produced. Its deep ruby/purple hue is accompanied by aromas of blackberries, cherries, road tar, and earth. Medium bodied with silky tannins as well as gobs of luscious fruit, it should be enjoyed over the next several years!" -Wine Advocate.com. "A beautiful garnet color with just a touch of brick. Scents of strawberries, raspberries, and a bit of spice blend together and are lifted out of the glass. Wonderful roundness, oak and tannins are integrated perfectly!" -Organicwinejournal.com
