Il Pino di Biserno 2006

A rich cépage of the requisite Bordeaux varietals which have found a new home amongst the silty, alluvial clays and sands between Bibbona and Bolgheri in Tuscany's west. The wine industry press have been unanimous in their enthusiasm for Pino di Biserno, which improves remarkably with each new vintage.

Grapes yielding a mere 1½ bottles are selectively hand picked off vines grown to very special soils, complex silts, alluvial sands, a high percentage of clay and a conglomerate rich in minerals, unique influences of terroir which are recognizable in the finished wines, all very similar to those found in Bordeaux. Berries are further sorted upon arrival to the Biserno wineworks, de-stemmed, gently crushed and vinified for three to four weeks at 28°C before being treated to full malolactic in a combination of barrels and fermenters. Matured twelve months in a selection of French oak barriques and vats, before the final assemblage, bottling and a further six months ageing under the Biserno cellars before release. Alcohol 14.5%

Deep bright ruby red in colour. Intense nose with ripe berries, dark chocolate and spicy oak. The concentration of fruit is supported by fine, ripe tannins, lending structure and balance for a harmonious wine with a splendid, generous middle palate before along and elegant finish.

Lodovico and Piero Antinori surveyed the stunning landscapes along the Upper Maremma, among the hillsides of Bibbona, bordering the DOC Bolgheri. They were struck by the similarities of soil between the prosepective Biserno vineyards and Bordeaux, inspiring them to plant Cabernet Franc, the dominant component in Pino di Biserno, joined by varying percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A rich cépage of the requisite Bordeaux varietals which have found a new home amongst the silty, alluvial clays and rich sand soils in Tuscany's west.

The panorama from the slopes of Tenuta di Biserno is breathtaking, with views down to the Tyrrhenian Sea all the way to Corsica. Lodovico and Piero Antinori surveyed the land and were struck by the similarities of it's soils with those of Bordeaux. They were inspired to plant Cabernet Franc, the dominant component in Pino di Biserno, joined by varying percentages of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot. A super fine Tuscan with remarkable early drinkability which continues to enthuse the wine industry press with each new release.

Tenuta di Biserno is in western Tuscany, along the Upper Maremma, among the hills of Bibbona, bordering the DOC Bolgheri. The vineyards of Bibbona and Bolgheri relate to each other very much in the manner of Saint Emilion and Pomerol. A statuesque cépage of Cabernet Franc and Sauvignon, Merlot and Petit Verdot, Il Pino di Biserno is the second growth of Tenuta Biserno.

A solid backbone of Cabernet Franc and Merlot, with smaller components Cabernet Sauvignon and Petit Verdot. Piero Antinori, the icon vintner who created the concept of super Tuscans in the 1970s, was inspired by unique soils along the Upper Maremma to plant Biserno's specialty, the esoteric Cabernet Franc.

Tenuta di Biserno Insoglio 2007

From fruit grown to three different plots west of the road that joins Bibbona to Bolgheri. Soils are sandier and climes slightly warmer during the summer months, conditions which are ideal for growing Syrah, which accounts for a third of Insoglio del Cinghiale. It's peppery character makes it perfect with game, such as the local wild boar after which it is named.
