Right next to the Merry Widow Inn at Glenrowan, infamous of Kelly gang folklore, Richard Bailey set up shop to service prospectors during the great Victorian gold rush of the 1860s. Rows of newly planted Shiraz soon followed and the Baileys released their first vintage in 1870. The region was ultimately infected by the terrible vine killing plague of the 1890s, a guarded blessing for Glenrowan, which elevated the quarantine status of its vitiated vineyards to a marque of the highest provenance. Baileys endure as one of the new world's most arcane and mythical wineworks, a small estate of historically significant parcels, producing limited vintages, defined by.. The bushranger's brew»
Longview are one of the most highly awarded wineries in Adelaide Hills, inducted into the South Australia Tourism Hall of Fame for their stately homesteads and the sublime excellence of their vintages. There are fewer than twenty hectares of Stefano Lubiana vines, overlooking the spectacular tidal estuary of Derwent River. Chosen for its felicitious winegrowing aspects, it is a place of scrupulously clean soils, free of any pesticides or manufactured treatments. Insects are welcome here, they are mother nature's endorsement of a holistically biodynamic viticulture. Lubiana is a fifth generation winemaker, one of the apple isle's leading vignerons, he works to an arcane system of seasonal chronometers, governed by cosmic rhythms, the turning of leaves and angle of the moon. His wines are given full indulgence to make themselves. Ferments lie undisturbed and.. Celestial wines from southern climes»
Kalleske are one of our nation's most distinguished winegrower families, Barossa through and through, heirs to the tradition of Prussian pastoralists who established South Australia as one of the world's great viticultural precincts. The family Kalleske were the quiet achievers behind the stellar quality of fruit, at the heart of the most memorable vintages Penfolds Grange. Old sites and ancient vines, a tally of which have been branded under the Atze's Corner label, a regal range of stately Barossa wines, irresistibly underpriced in terms of provenance, excellence and sheer delight. Spectacular bouquets, redolent of freshness, fragrance and fruit,.. Small batches of the barossa's very best»

Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Spatlese 2010 CONFIRM 2010 VINTAGE

Egon Muller Scharzhofberger Spatlese 2010 - Buy
Riesling Saar Germany
Scharzhofberger is the most famous vineyard of the Saar. It's stature is so great, that according to German law, it is one of the few wines which may be plainly labelled under it's own name, in much the same way as the Grand Cru of Burgundy. It's distinguished vines, established by the Romans, are husbanded by Germany's most eminent growers. Spätlese means late harvest, but at Egon Muller the term is used for wines made from grapes of superior ripeness. Scharzhofberger Vineyard makes extraordinary wines that defy the normal categories of sweet and dry.
The vines at Scharzhofberger are grown to a precipitous slope which enjoys breathtaking views of the Saar Valley. Soils are composed of grey and red slates, very loose and well drained, they form a unique synergy with the microclimate to provide singular conditions for Riesling. The wines are very refined and elegant, with penetrating salty mineral tones and exemplary acidity. The choicest grapes, exhibiting the requisite qualities of a Spätlese are fermented mostly through the action of wild yeasts in old, thousand litres oak foudres. The wines are raised in ancient cellars which were built by mediaeval monks. The deep, very cold and damp environments make the perfect environment in which to gently age the wines.
Light golden hue. Subtle florals, peach nectar and citrus oils, honey and herb. Judiciously ripe palate, delicate fruit with hints of honeyed botrytis and citrus floral are supported by a vivid crystalline structure and chillingly fresh acidity. A beguiling finish on lingering notes of juicy fruit/ floral/ nut flavours.
