Landhaus The Saint Shiraz 2010

Just outside the Barossa village of Bethany, Lutheran settlers built a simple mud and stone dwelling in 1842 to house a local cowherd. Vines were later planted around the homestead and it took on the name Landhaus. The little cottage has since been refurbished and the neglected vines nursed back to health. The limited yields of Landhaus are now a realization of everything Barossa, winemaking tradition and the endowments of nature. An old vines Shiraz of power, texture and immense depth of flavour, stylish, seductive and full of charm.

Shiraz is sourced from low yielding vineyards between fifty and seventy five years of age, yielding a mere 1½ to 2 tonne per acre, planted mainly to red brown over dark red soils and chalky limestone, situated around the ancient Barossa winegrowing precincts of Bethany and Ebeneezer. Grapes are fermented on skins for seven to eight days at cooler temperatures to preserve and enhance the quality of fruit. Parcels are pressed and filled to barrel for completion of ferments and full natural malolactic. Components are racked to a selection of seasoned French oak barriques for sixteen months maturation before bottling, unfiltered and unfined. Alcohol 14.0%

Saturated dark berry colour. Bramble and liquorice nose, pepper, cocoa and spice. A huge mouthful of chocolate, black cherries, plum and exotic spice flavours pulling themselves together into a supple wine that strives for elegance, it's all in the sleek balance, allowing the rich flavours to ride on and linger beautifully. The texture is silky and mouth filling with lively acid and fine tannins providing great balance and structure.
