At latitude 45 degrees south, Central Otago is the southernmost wine region in the world. Grand Marque Of Glenrowan»
Right next to the Merry Widow Inn at Glenrowan, infamous of Kelly gang folklore, Richard Bailey set up shop to service prospectors during the great Victorian gold rush of the 1860s. Rows of newly planted Shiraz soon followed and the Baileys released their first vintage in 1870. The region was ultimately infected by the terrible vine killing plague of the 1890s, a guarded blessing for Glenrowan, which elevated the quarantine status of its vitiated vineyards to a marque of the highest provenance. Baileys endure as one of the new world's most arcane and mythical wineworks, a small estate of historically significant parcels, producing limited vintages, defined by their exceptional value, purity of parentage and wondrous regional.. The dozen or so hectares of Les Lys on the left bank of River Serein, are a delineation within the much larger appellation of Les Vaillons. Domaine William Fevre manages a precious single hectare of Les Lys, conspicuous for its traditions of being private property of the Roi himself. Planted to rich clay soils within a unique mesoclime, the fruit here yields a rather more delicate and refined style of Chablis.

Pale yellow hues. A very fine bouquet, combining fruity and floral notes supported by graceful mineral notes. A soft, elegant palate, linear and pure, layered with charming and elegant fruit characters, minerality and textural richness in support of crisp orchard flavours, nashi and granny smith. A family that has been in the Chablis region for more than 250 years, William Fevre's father was already a great winemaker

His son William founded the Domaine de la Maladiare and announced his first harvest in 1959. For many years, William Fevre (who to this day enjoys a very good reputation as a defender of historically renowned terroirs), has worked each plot keenly and skilfully so as to make wine whose personality reflects the authenticity of the soils from which they spring.

In 1998, the venerable Henriot family from Champagne succeeded him. To continue these focused efforts, the Domaine was taken up with the constant desire to make indisputably genuine and fine wines, and above all with bringing along a very personal expertise in Chardonnay. All the efforts have but one goal, to finely express the most subtle variations in the greatest Chablis crus.
