Pol Roger et Cie is one of the very few remaining Houses in Champagne that remains in the hands of the establishing family. To this day, Roger et fils take personal charge in the selection of and the handling of the Cuvées, each and every ear. Pol Roger Vintage Brut is one of Champagne's great wines, a composition of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay, splendid upon release after several years of ageing in bottle underneath the estate Chais at Epernay. Soft, with a deep palate and extrordinary perfume, a wine of breeding, complexity and finesse.

Amongst the Pol Roger assets are many miles of subterranean chalk caves and two hundred acres of vineyards. Roger also retains some of Epernay's finest growers to meet the international demand. Roger's caves incorporate a sub-cellar that maintains a constant 9.5º C. This variance of a single degree lower to the upper stratum of caves slows the second fermentation, encouraging a finer mousse. Complex aromas that typify this style of wine result from a painstaking process of storage and agitation in a unique cellaring tradition. Cuvée Vintage Brut is allowed to slowly and quietly mature, treated to an extended rest within it's own bottle, upon it's own sediment, before disgorgement and liqueur doseage.

Lemon coloured with an expansive mousse. Bouquets that are wonderful, brioche and butter, a complete champagne with classic autolysis, yeast expressions and baguette characters, fresh roast nuts and cashew, lemons and floral. It literally leaps onto the tongue with a dexterity that belies an immense palate, primarily of white cherry and apple, mouthfillingly sweet yet reined in by brilliant acids in perfect balance. Roger is so suitably flavoursome and elegant that it can disappear all too quickly, depriving the uninitiated of a singular experience. Savour Pol Roger and allow the effervescence to engage your tongue, satiating all five senses. The lingering finish resolves on a warming note of cordiality and lasting salutations.

A veritable treasure trove of beautifully harmonised essences and flavours are the hallmarks of the great House of Pol Roger. The man himself enjoyed a heroic status as an international purveyor of Champagne and as the mayor of Épernay, an office he won in recognition of his resistance against the German army. The grateful townspeople continued to re-elect Pol-Roger as mayor until 1935 when they bestowed the honour upon him for life. It was the champagne of Winston Churchill, who as everybody knows, was satisfied only by the best.

Pol Roger Cuvée Sir Winston Churchill 2000

Pol Roger's most prestigious Cuvée, only ever made in the finest vintages, a cépage of Grand Cru Pinot Noir and Chardonnay sourced exclusively from vineyards which were under vine during Churchill's time. The relationship between Churchill and Roger dates back to a luncheon some months after the liberation of Paris, at which was served the sumptuous 1928 vintage. In attendence were the beautiful Odette Pol-Roger and Sir Winston himself. The two struck up an instant rapport and the friendship between their families endures to this day.
