William James Maxwell was an architectural sculptor who migrated from Scotland to Australia in 1875. He built a mock castle and established a family vineyard just outside Adelaide, which he named Woodlands Park. His son planted vines in nearby McLaren Vale and his grandson served a term as winemaker for Hardy Wines at the historic Tintara wineworks. Many of the world's greatest vineyards are situated along either bank of Route des Grands Crus which runs through the heart of Burgundy. Gevrey-Chambertin is one of the most celebrated appellations in the region, it is steeped in history, the eponymous Chateau was occupied as early as the ninth century by Benedictine monks who grew grapes and made wine. Chambertin was Napoleon's favourite tipple and he always brought barrels along with him on campaign. Vieilles Vignes represents the entry level into Domaine Dugat-Py.
