Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Cabernet 2009

Gapsted have taken the opportunity to acquire parcels of fruit grown to the upper and middle reaches of King Valley, constructing a Cabernet wine with wonderful warmth in the mid palate. Intensity and great colour comes from vines planted to higher elevations, a component with attractive herbaceousness and cassis, exotic mint and plummy characterr provides the winning ticket. The finished effort displays a captivating palate with suede textural mouthfeel, a generousity of varietal fruit and firm structure, finishing in precisely the right direction.

Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Rose

Five different wines from five different varieties are made in the preparation of Ballerina Canopy Rosé. In the end it is a marriage split equally between Spain and Italy, Tempranillo and Sangiovese. The soft, ripe, sun drenched, plummy, rich, spiciness of the Spanish grape Tempranillo is blended with the sweet cherry tones of the Italian grape variety Sangiovese. The early part of summer can be cool and dry adding to the health of vines. The latter parts of summer may be hot and dry, favouring development of juicy berry characters.

Gapsted Ballerina Canopy Sauvignon Blanc 2011

The cooler clime Gapsted vineyard at Whitfield in the King Valley, easterly facing at an elevation of 375 metres, is ideally suited to Sauvignon Blanc. Protected from the hot afternoon sun by hills behind the property, the managed canopy delivers harvests of Sauvignon Blanc endowed with wonderfully intense aromas and flavours. As is always the case with good fruit, the wine virtually makes itself. Revealing just a hint of fine tangy acidity, Gapsted is lively with fruit flavour, wonderfully balanced and refreshingly crisp all the way to the finish.

An assemblage of King Valley fruit, some parcels acquire their individuality in the vineyard, while others develop their charm in the vinification and ageing. Previous vintages have claimed conspicuous accolades including a silver medal at the prestigious London International. Much of the fruit is sourced from eminent sites around Whitfield in King Valley, not far from the Gapsted wineworks. Growing conditions can be close to perfect in these higher altitudes and the team make it a priority to capture and preserve the exceptional quality of Shiraz.

Gapsted Victorian Alps Dolcetto Syrah

Dolcetto is an Italian grape whose name derives from the Italian word for sweet. Syrah is the French pronunciation of Shiraz, which when ripened fully creates beautifully sweet soft fruit, but still with a bit of spice. Gapsted's crafted a finely honed blend of Dolcetto and Syrah, sensationally balanced, refreshing and inimitable in it's reflection of high country climes. The elevated altitude of vineyards, cool Alpine breezes and snow run-off in spring, are all contributors to this unique wine blend's delightfuly flavoured, satisfyingly quenching nature.

Gapsted Victorian Alps Muscato

Inspired by the lush fruitiness of the Italian classic Moscato d'Asti, Gapsted is a blend in name and style, of Traminer Musqué and Frontignac muscato bianco. The Traminer component is sourced from Whitlands Vineyard, grown to the higher, elevated aspects of King Valley, picked early to retain freshness and lively fruit character. This slightly spritzy Muscato drinks well on its own but also suits a range of lighter desserts such as pannacotta, soft cheese, dried fruits and fresh peaches.

Gapsted Victorian Alps Riesling

Riesling is sourced from premium cool climate vineyards in Victoria's high country. A remarkable thing about the famous King Valley Rieslings is that they are endowed with splendid balance. The nutrition levels in the grapes and refreshing acidity mean that the Gapsted winemaking team need do very little when vinifying the fruit, the aim being to preserve natural integrity of superior quality fruit. Enjoy right now as it's drinking brilliantly with seafood, particularly olive oil and herb dressed, char grilled squid.
