Moppity Lock Key Sparkling

Lock & Key is a reference to ancestors who were brought to New South Wales as convicts aboard Australia's second fleet. A generously proportioned single vineyard Pinot Chardonnay, the first sparkling wine to be made from fruit grown to the blossoming Hilltops region. Moppity Vineyard's original plantings are nearing forty years of age, some of the oldest stock in southern New South Wales. These mature, low yielding vines don't deliver much fruit but the precious grapes are wonderfully concentrated and produce the most remarkable sparkling wine.

Moppity Lock Key Cabernet Sauvignon 2009

Moppity have claimed many conspicuous accolades for wine in Australia and overseas. Their property sits at the highest elevation in the Hilltops and the vines are among the region's eldest, the source of fruit for many memorable wines including the 2009 Jimmy Watson winner. Lock & Key is Moppity's entry level effort, a pure single vineyard Cabernet from mature, low yielding vines, fashioned to be approachable and early drinking.

The cool climes of Tumbarumba at the foothills of Snowy Mountains are ideally suited to producing lean, elegant and refined Chardonnay wines. Lock & Key have embarrassed some pretty big names on the national wine show circuit, establishing Hilltops as the rising star growing appellation for Australian Shiraz. A rich, totally mouth filling wine with a deep, dark colour that's characteristic of Hilltops Shiraz. The palate is intense and concentrated, with loads of ripe dark berry, pepper and spice flavour.
