Witchmount Estate Shiraz 2009

Witchmount's breathtaking efforts have won international renown for Sunbury as a winegrowing region after claiming a prestigious gold medal at the Rhone Valley's Syrah du Monde. These stunning wines are based around parcels of superlative Shiraz grapes, cultivated by a grower who was raised amongst his vines and knows each planting intimately.

Great wine begins in the vineyard and can only be achieved through respect for the land. Hand shoot positioning and close canopy managements are applied, exposing the vines to as much sunshine as possible, fully ripening the grapes as they develop intense, complex flavours. Grapes are crushed and destremmed into an open fermenter. The desired level of colour and tannin extraction is achieved through a combination of plunging and pumping over. At the completion of primary ferments, the skins are gently tank pressed and juices inoculated for malolactic. Witchmount is matured twelve months in a selection of new and one year old French and American oak barrels prior to bottling. Alcohol 14.0%

Deep, dense garnet red. Ripe berry fruit, intergrated oak with pepper and spice overtones. A full rich palate packed with flavour. Although full bodied, the ripe grape tannins are soft and give a long chewy finish. Will continue to develop added complexity as it evolves into a complete and satisfying, classic Victorian Shiraz.
