Rows of newly planted Shiraz soon followed and the Baileys released their first vintage in 1870. The region was ultimately infected by the terrible vine killing plague of the 1890s, a guarded blessing for Glenrowan, which elevated the quarantine status of its vitiated vineyards to a marque of the highest provenance. Graeme Melton and a mate were travelling across South Australia in 1973, their EH Holden was in dire need of maintenance and Graeme took up casual work at a passing winery. The site supervisor was Peter Lehmann and young Graeme had his epiphany on the road to Barossa Valley. The proprietors at Le Tertre are so fond of the travails and rewards of Botrytis wine, that they have turned their entirety of their acreage to Sauternes. Harvesting takes place grape by grape to include only those berries which are Botrytised and perfect for the purpose. Vineyards are picked over several passes among the vines at different times throughout each vintage, to apply the painstaking pruning and selection methods which are unique to the Sauternes region. Tertre Du Lys is powerful on the palate with delicious flavours and elegant aftertaste, fullness and balance, richness and ripe acidity.
