Coonawarra cattle graziers since 1906, the Reschke family turned some of their land over to viticulture in the 1980s. Such was the quality of Reschke fruit, that it became an essential inclusion for some of Wynn's most memorable vintages and a number of national icon wines. Reschke now keep the pick of crop for their own label, the most princely harvests of Coonawarra Cabernet, Merlot and Shiraz, characterised by their defined regional eloquence and ingratiating palate weight. The fruit of vines, planted to iron red terra rosa soil and nourished by the fertile plenitude from generations of grazing cattle, for every ardent enthusiast of born and bred, baronnial Coonawarra marques... Just outside the Gippsland town of Leongatha, a few minutes down the road from the hallowed grounds at Bass Phillip estate, ten precious acres of exceptional terroir were planted in 1990, to artisanal clones of Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Syrah. The propitious easterly aspects make the most of morning sun, an auspicious bequeath of fertile Ferrosols oblige the rootstock and infuse the fruit, while reducing the vigor and rationing the harvest. Lucinda Estate was never established as a producer of scale, its scant yields were always destined to be in pursuit of stunning Syrah and the perfect Pinot. Samuel Smith migrated from Dorset England to Angaston in the colony of South Australia circa 1847, he took up work as a gardener with George Fife Angas, the virtual founder of the colony. In 1849, Smith bought thirty acres and planted vines by moonlight, the first ever vintages of Yalumba. One of his most enduring legacies were some unique clones of Shiraz, which were ultimately sown to the illustrious Mount Edelstone vineyard in 1912. Angas's great grandchild Ron Angas acquired cuttings from the Edelstone site and migrated the precious plantings to his pastures at Hutton Vale. The land remains in family hands, a graze for flocks of some highly fortunate lamb. In between the paddocks, blocks of Sam.. The return of rootstock to garden of eden»

Salvador Poveda Toscar Monastrell 2009 CONFIRM 2009 VINTAGE

Mataro Mourvedre Alicante Spain
The Salvador Poveda wineworks are situated at Alicante in the southeast of Spain, a winegrowing region between the central plains and Mediterranean Sea. Alicante has a warm, sunny climate and is well endowed with the most idyllic growing conditions for the production of vivacious, stylish young wines. Monastrelli is Alicante's rendering of Mataro, also known as Mourvedre outside of Spain, where the wines of Alicante are winning favour by virtue of their stylish regional expression, sound palate structure, ripe tannins and complex aromas.
The Alicante D.O. is becoming known for it's contemporary styles of wine and artisanal, pioneering bodegas. Toscar Monastrell is a pure varietal Mataro expressing the region's terroir as it relates to indigenous grapes with unique characteristics. From vines grown to limestone soils with an almost zero clay content, a wealth of minerals and very low level of organic material. A traditional vinification is applied to the fruit, inoculated to local yeasts and treated to a prolonged maceration on skins where the juices absorb good colour and ripe tannins. Traditionally fermented and bottled without any filtration whatsoever, this fully endowed wine should be allowed to settle with a decanting. Approx 13.5%
Bright scarlet colour. Intense, perfumed ripe cherry fruit, blackberries and plum come to the fore, chocolate and herbs. An earthy, meaty palate with minerality and savouryness, complex spice with sweet and dry fruits supported by muscular tannins.
