The story of Langmeil begins with early Barossa settlement, planted to Shiraz by Christian Auricht in the 1840s, the estate vineyards were restored by the Lindner and Bitter families during the 1990s. Some of Herr Auricht's original plantings are still in production, three and a half priceless acres of gnarled, dry grown vines which provided the cuttings for much of Langmeil's refurbished heirloom parcels. Josef Chromy OAM escaped from war torn Czechoslovakia as a penniless 19 year old in 1950, he fled across minefields, evading soldiers and killer dogs, ultimately finding a new home in the lucky country. Hurtle Walker first picked grapes as a ten year old on the celebrious Magill property in 1900. Apprenticed to the legenderies Monsieur Duray and Leon Mazure, Walker was placed in charge of sparkling wine production for the historic Auldana Cellars at the ripe old age of 21. Argiano's vineyards are blessed by favourable climes and choice terrains. Temperate winds from the Maremma cool the vines in summer, while nearby Monte Amiata shelters the whole area from inclement weather. Grapes are usually picked September to October, depending on the type of soil, the exposure of vineyards and vagaries of vintage. Following a traditional and minimalist, old world style of vinification, Argiano Brunello is treated to a natural malolactic and extended term of maturation. It can be aged for as long as it takes, years in a combination of seasoned oak barrels and larger format vats.
Deep garnet red. Ripe nose with black berry scents, stalk and a hint of freshly ground spice. Solid structure and full palate are accompanied by captivating perfumes of ripe berries and clean pastoral fragrances. Quite developed, maintaining remarkable complexity, a good structure and exceptional balance, a lingering finish, round and luscious with silky tannins.
